Am I wrong for hoping that’s the case?
ETA: Actually, I’d prefer they went 16-0 and then lost in their first playoff game. Seems more embarrasing that way.

Everyone remembers that the last NFL team to go undefeated was the 1972 Dolphins, but the one before that was the 1942 Chicago Bears , who went 11-0 and lost the NFL championship game to the Redskins. The Bears outscored their opponents 376-84,
(For the sake of completeness, The Cleveland Browns went 14-0 in 1948, two years before they joined the NFL. The 1934 Bears were the only other “perfect” NFL team.)
There are also a number of single-season records that could be set. Tom Brady is one shy of the record for touchdown passes, Randy Moss is one shy of the record for touchdown receptions, and the team is quite close to the records for total points and offensive points scored. I believe they’ve already set the record for most touchdowns in a season, so they can extend that as well.
As a Giants fan, of course I hope they win. I also welcome all of the Pats haters that just want to see them lose one. Nobody likes an undefeated team when it’s not your own right?
Also, as a Giants fan, I expect them to lose (barring unforeseen circumstances) and I hope they keep the team healthy for a change.
The Giants have been in the playoffs for the last three years, they constantly have players going to the pro-bowl (Shockey, Strahan, probably Osi) and the post season has always ended in injury. Shockey just broke his damn leg! He’s one of the best tight ends in the league!
If the Giants win, awesome. If they don’t…for Pete’s sake keep the players healthy for a game or two. Going out in the first or second round of playoff games has become the norm for Giants fans, that’s fine. We’re no Superbowl team this year, and we’re barely a playoff team. Just keep everyone healthy for next year.
Also, Tom Brady does not deserve to hold two of the most coveted titles in the world, those being “reigning Superbowl Champ” and “the guy dating Giselle Bundchen”. No mortal man deserves to hold both of those titles. He still wants more if you can believe it, I shit you not.
I will be wearing my Giants shirt during the game, but I will not be screaming for victory, because both teams are guaranteed a playoff spot, and a Giants win only serves as a spoiler for the perfect season for the Pats.
Who’s got worse luck? The Giants? They’re in the playoffs, a Pats win does nothing for them. The Pats? Likewise a Pats win means nothing, but a loss means losing a perfect record. If I were a Pats fan, I’d be confident, but worried nonetheless.
To add to and echo weebairn and **anson2995 **this what is happening is the NFL has been playing chicken on this as a bigger issue for two years:
They believed that these type of big games would lead football nation to cry out as one and rise up and smite the greedy cable folk who refuse to carry the NFL Network as a basic (non-premium) Channel. There are multiple ongoing ad campaigns by the NFL to stir the fanbase up and bring big on pressure big cable (Comcast, Cox, Time-Warner et al). Jerry Jones and other owners have been traveling around to legislatures to get government action.
The NFL was actually delighted that Congress involved itself in this … at first. They magnanimously (they would have said) offered binding arbitration to Time-Warner to resolve it in New England. TimeWarner promptly rejected this. Suddenly as the big game approached and there was no movement the NFL saw the ground shift under its feet, there were rumblings of hearings and of exemptions being pulled & the NFL caved.
I think the NFL’s dream of a 5th Network - their own - being a HUGE revenue stream (along with the 3 networks and ESPN) has taken a catastrophic hit. The NFL will need to come up with a new model and revised earnings expectations to make this NFL Network a huge money maker as they dreamed (N.B. it is viable and likely will be for decades - just not what they dreamed it would become in the near term - that is done).
