I picked up Hard Truth by Nevada Barr a couple of weeks ago and finished it over the weekend. I enjoyed it, as I’ve enjoyed the rest of her mysteries, but there were a couple of plot points which bothered me and I wanted to see what others thought of it. I’ll save the points for later.
Is there anyone else out there who’s read any books by Nevada Barr? If so, what do you think of them? Her detective is Anna Pigeon who works for the National Park Service.
Sorry to take so long to get back to this. Yesterday didn’t quite go as planned.
Here’s what bothered me.
Point 1:
The whole character of Robert Proffitt, the youth minister, and his actions never quite jibed. Was he aware of what was happening to the girls as they became teenagers? Also, what was he doing all the time he was searching for the girls? Was he really spending all that time feeding wolf cubs and searching? His knocking Anna off the cliff also doesn’t seem to fit.
Point 2:
The whole incident where Anna Pigeon comes across the gothed out girl at a campsite. I haven’t had a chance to go back and re-read the scene, but it also just doesn’t fit.
