Yesterday I was looking at the activity on my checking account and found something. It seems that Conner Capital Investments, Inc. made a draft for $99.00 on my account. The instrument said that it was authorized by mrs.lanelee on 04/25/2005 and it had SIGNATURE NOT REQUIRED where you traditionally sign a check. I was almost civil when I got to the bank and informed the lady that mrs.lanelee could not have possibly authorized this check on 04/25/2005 since she had died on 06/28/2004. How could this happen?
The lady at the bank was really sympathetic and said that she could get me my money back, but that she could not tell where Conner Capital Investments, Inc. was located. If anyone could tell me where to find someone affiliated with Conner Capital Investments, Inc., I would appreciate it. I have a hatchet that I have filed the edge off of and I would like to meet them.
No, and I can’t find anything on the net about them. Are you sure you have the correct spelling?
Sorry about your wife too.
Anywhoo, is there a local branch of the FBI you could call and have them look into it? Seems that this may be a case of stolen identity and they should be able to get something started. Lots of schemes involve using the identities of our beloved who have passed.
Or, it could be that your wife authorised a yearly automatic withdrawl for some type of policy, investment, insurance, etc, - whatever.
You won’t really know until you find out who is behind the withdrawl.
I would ask try asking to see the forms associated with this transfer.
You might persuade your bank to give you copies of those.
Once you do that, you’ll likely have an ABA routing number that will disclose the name of the bank that this firm uses.
Contact that bank. Indicate that you need to mail a letter to one of their clients. They may be able to forward a letter for you. After all, this is a service to their client, and for all the bank knows you want to make an investment with their client, or return some lost funds.
If they’re real chumps, they may even disclose a mailing address you can send the letter to. They really shouldn’t, but it may happen.
I know when I get automatic drafts at my bank account, a “check” type paper shows up in the system in my online banking that indicates where to transfer the money to, etc.
I have copies of the check, front and back, the check was endorsed FOR DEPOSIT ONLY at the Suntrust Bank in Orlando. Conner Capital Investments is in fact a client but they (Suntrust) wouldn’t tell me dick. My tact has been stretched.
This is their registration with the state of Florida, where it appears they are incorporated (so it’s good that you got the check, which leads us to Florida). Let us know how this turns out.
This link includes a statement from a Christopher Conner, “spokesman for Negative Population Growth”, in Florida. Is that something she would have been involved in?
Well, some quick internet database searching shows that Christoper C. Conner of Longwood, FL is 25 years old.
A phone number can be found online, but I think posting it would be crossing the line.
I wonder if $99 is a magic level in regards felony versus misdemeanor here in Florida? It could be that the guy slams bank accounts of the recently deceased with amounts large enough to be worthwhile but small enough to avoid drawing the attention of serious law enforcement.
Every check you write has the account and routing number right on it.
He could have worked for a business that accepted a check (from her or any number of other people) and possibly took digital pictures of them. Would be really easy to pull off.
