Has anyone here ever suffered from Eustachian Tube Dysfunction?

I currently have a long-standing problem with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction in both ears. The symptoms are a feeling of extreme fullness just ‘behind’ each ear, constant pressure headaches, ‘clicking’ and a feeling that the airways associated with my ears are full of mucus or liquid, and persistent low-grade infections. However, I have no hearing loss.

NHS doctors here in the UK have suggested that this problem – which has been in existence now for about four years – can be alleviated by the insertion of tubes or grommets in both ears. However, they have initially been reluctant to insert these because I don’t experience hearing loss (and, apparently, they only recommend this procedure when hearing has been affected). The private practice doctors are all too ready to put the tubes in - the hearing reduction is temporary and the tubes remove themselves naturally over time.

But has anyone else ever suffered from ETD? With or without hearing loss? Steroids are usually prescribed - did thos work for you? Decongestants like, in the UK, Sudafed provide some relief - can you suggest others?
