Has anyone here ever used LendingTree.com--what are your experiences?

I’m seriously considering obtaining a home equity loan and possibly re-financing my one bedroom condo as well. I’ve re-financed before, and it wasn’t too much of a hassle. This was quite a few years ago and I forget what hoops I had to jump through. I can’t quite remember exactly how much is left on my loan and I’m not exactly sure how much my unit appraises for. For you smart Dopers, what was your experience like?

Anyone got any experience with this website?

Got a car loan once. Very straightforward, no hassles.

I used them to refinance my truck. It was quick, no hassles and everything got completed in about two weeks. It took a a day or two longer because my VIN # has a 0 in it and I wasn’t honestly certain if it was zero or “O”.

I had an increase in refinance spam after that… which my have been my own fault. I may have forgotten to check something but it was a welcome relief from the “barnyard/farm sex” video offers.

I recommend them.

Thanks for your answers. Any others?

Lending Tree.com Epinion reviews

I got thousands of spams offering mortgages – not from them, but all beginning when I filled out their form online. I recommend you use a disposable e-mail address.

I refinanced our house about 6 months ago and was extremely satisfied with their service. The closing officer of the new mortgage company came to our house to close instead of having to take time off work to do it at the title company office.

I used my regular email and did not get one spam. I don’t know if my filters are just that good or if maybe they’ve changed their policy about releasing info?? Danalan’s recommendation to use a disposable addy is a good one for peace of mind.

I puzzled over that when entering info for a county sticker for my car. Then I read that the letter “O” is never used in a VIN number - if it looks like an “O”, it’s actually a zero. If it looks like an “I”, it’s a one. If it looks like a “Q”, it’s also a zero. Here’s New York’s take on it: https://fornax2.dmv.state.ny.us/titlestatus/iviqEnterVehInfo.cfm.

And if you really want to go nuts, here’s an explanation of the whole VIN number scheme: http://www.vehicleidentificationnumber.com/NHTSA_vehicle_identification_number_content.html. Wow!

I was reasonably happy with the resulting loan we got… but like others, the spam we’ve gotten since has been unrelenting and incredibly annoying.

We were supposed to get three offers, I think. One never contacted us with a true offer, so we had our choice of two.

I contacted them and got 1 serious offer and about 1,000 spam e-mails from loopy people. I finally refinanced my home using my real-life broker, who got me a better deal than the online offer. She doesn’t send me 4-5 spam e-mails a day, either. I think lendingtree.com is a great idea. They probably need to rethink their use of e-mail assets.
