Has anyone read this book? Because I would like to know what it is about, I have read the book but I couldn’t ‘get into it’ if you know what I mean.
Is it one of the Arthur C. Clark sci-fi series? The title doesn’t sound familiar, but his were all about Rama and I liked them a lot.
Rendesvous With Rama was an awesome book, but the three that followed were kind of a collaboration (and an afterthought) and just a bit different enough that a fan of the first might not be a fan of the rest.
Assuming that’s what you’re talking about. I don’t remember their names.
Amazon.com has no mention of “Revenge of Rama”. Did you mean “Rama II”?
Yes, the books written by Arthur C. Clarke
The books are Rendezvous with Rama, by Arthur C. Clarke; and Rama II, Garden of Rama, and Rama Revealed, by Clarke and Gentry Lee. Sorry, but I have never heard of Revenge of Rama.
I meant Rama II, sorry for the mistake.
I loved Rama1, it was amazing.
As for the rest of them, you can EASILY tell when Gentry Lee is writng and Clarke isn’t. The books are OK, but I really don’t like Gentry’s style. His style reminds me of reading a newspaper for some reason.
I’m still mad at Clarke for 3001 groan.
Heh heh… “Rama 2! This time it’s not just a space ship…”
Rama Revealed had the first sex scene I ever read. I honestly had no idea whether the guy “screaming like an animal” after he had the thai butt beads pulled out was a good thing or a bad.
Oddy enough I’ve avoided anything with Gentry Lee’s name on it since.
I’m in the middle of the third one right now. They’re not bad, but they’re not great either. Some mysteries are better left unexplained.
And I haven’t gotten to that scene yet, Silentgoldfish. I don’t remember it from the last time I read these some years ago. Eek.
I’m pretty sure the books were 90% written by Gentry Lee. The style is very different from Clarke’s.
As an Arthur C. Clarke fan I would like to state There were no sequels to Rendezvous
with Rama those other books that some have claimed to read were beamed in from some hellish dimension.

I actually kinda liked the Rama trilogy that followed Rendezvous…. A bit bloated, but cheesy fun.
On the other hand, I didn’t like Cradle (Clarke and Lee’s follow-up collaboration) at all. Bleh.
Hey actually . . . the computer game Rama, by Sierra, was pretty good. It was based on Rama II. After playing the game, I started reading the books. Rendesvous With Rama, like I said before, was awesome. I put down Rama II after like ten pages.
Icerigger: Very subtle!
You mean you weren’t already mad at him for 2061 ?
Scene from ‘Revenge of Rama’
Rama: I’m going to leave you the way you left me, deserted on a dessolate planet…
Kirk: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
My problem with Lee is that he seems to bring religion into everything, at least that was the case in Cradle(and I never could finish more then 3 or 4 chapters), when there is no reason to do so, and it is as annoying at times as Clarke’s downright hostility to anything religious.
Hmm. Sounds really interesting. Opening up [sensored] so I can [sensored].
