270 degrees of viewing-has anyone seen a movie in this format yet and, if so, what did it cost over the regular cost of a movie, and was it the cost?
It is an interesting idea but only 3 theaters have it in North America. I would love to see what it is like.
I’ve been to 360° theaters before, and it’s just a novelty.
It’s fine for nature documentaries, but it’s worse than useless for conventional story-telling movies. There’s too much space out in the periphery, and as soon as you look over to see what is going on, you miss the action in the center of the screen.
I’d never heard of this before, and no longer live in or near either of the US cities with the option. The link to the ScreenX site isn’t working for me, for some reason. But I found a review by someone who watched Black Panther in that format (WARNING: review contains some spoiler info), and the review also contains a link to a preview of the movie showing the 270-degree projection: |Link|
If I had the opportunity (and I may, since I expect to be in Vegas at some point this year), I’d try it. But given the lower-quality projection on the sides of the theater, I doubt I’d always find it worth the added expense.
