It seems Dykstra took his $80,000 bone marrow dentures out at Jersey Mike’s subshop to eat his sandwich, left the shop and forgot his dentures, which he had wrapped in a napkin. When he went back, the table had been cleared and the napkin tossed.
So Dykstra and a friend spent hours going through the Dumpster, but finally found the dentures.
I thought you were supposed to be able to eat while wearing dentures? Have all those commercials with elderly people biting apples and chomping corn on the cob been lying to me?
dentist here. No, there are plenty of good dentures and the wearers can eat anything. Not all dentures are made well and even ones made well don’t change over time while the mouth does. Also the patient may not have gotten new ones or adjustments to the old ones. Disclaimer I haven’t made a denture in over 12 years and never liked doing them.
I’ve never heard of bone marrow dentures. Googled it and the only thing that keeps coming up are the Dykstra stories. They say they are dentures that are made of bone marrow. Doesn’t make sense since marrow is porous and holes in dentures are not a great thing. I am sure it is something else but I can’t find it.
I don’t know what solid platinum dentures would weigh, but $80,000 would buy close to 7 pounds of it. (Probably not enough to buy set of diamond ones like Cohen the Barbarian’s, though.)
