When the Alloy Orchestra performed their score in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, they screened the Moroder version.
Well, I’ve seen that, too.
It wasn’t bad, although at moments I thought I was having acid flashbacks to Astro Boy.
I couldn’t get the link to work. I’ve seen only one non-Moroder video incarnation and it’s a really old, cheap version which I bought in, gee, middle school…? I haven’t seen any of the DVDs, although the guys from the Munich Filmmuseum did walk us through a couple during one of the sessions just to show how terribly put together they all were.

This is definitely a film that deserves this level of restoration and care. The clips on the website look great - too bad it’s not travelling anywhere really convenient to me. Unfortunately, I can’t make to SFO while it’s there - damn.
I still hate you all, and currently Ike the most (as he’s the first one to have seen it.)

They showed a “mega-restored” version here in DC (at the National Gallery of Art) last winter. Fully restored with a live duo on a synthesizer and organ, I think. The subtitles were in German, and there was a reader who translated.
It was way cool. The print was beautiful and the synthesizer could make electicity sounds for the lab scenes, etc… They should have had an intermission, though, as it was a long film. The reader/translater sounded bored, though.
I’m not sure if this is the same version being discussed here that’s going into movie theaters. The way this presentation was arranged, it would have been difficult if not impossible to use a conventional theater for the showing.

Not only do DC denizens get to see the new digital restoration of Metropolis, but the AFI is also showing a festival of Akira Kurosawa/Toshiro Mifune movies (you’ll need Adobe to open the link) like Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, High and Low, Throne of Blood and The Hidden Fortress.
