I’m thinking about getting one for this summer, Do they work well? Did you experiance any problems from them?
i haven’t used the cooling system, but i bought the personal ionizer, http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview.jhtml?pid=24240300&pcatid=3&catid=307 , for the humidifying feature, because my office is soo dry that i was getting nosebleeds and all the complaining in the world didn’t work until another coworker also got a nosebleed (they didn’t want to humidify the computers), and it didn’t work at all. it sounded great in the add, but in reality, it only allowed you to put in 3 drops of water, which is not going to humidify anything of importance (i could just as easily drop 3 drops of water directly in my nose). plus, the constant blowing of air actually made things worse.
Since you’re looking for opinions, I’ll move this to IMHO.
I got one - it dos work and you doo feel cooler but it’s a little awkward.
Oh yeah I bought one when I was living in Phoenix… I love it. It is a little awkward but they work soo well!! Bascially, if you are thinking about buying one…do it. I use mine in the car, on the beach, hiking, fishing, everywhere. And the real weird thing is in Phoenix where it is basically likened to hell all the time…110 yesterday! people wear these things quite a lot! You see people in restaurants and bars wearing them…its kinda neat!! Get it!
Cool, thanks for the info guys. The other thing I was wondering about was whether it would work in high humidity area(I live in MD where it can be terrible) I know phoenix is mostly dry heat. Do you think this would make a big difference?
Nope, I doubt it would make any difference at all. You see you have to understand how they work. It blowsCOLD air down your back, and on your neck, literally airconditioned air. Its quite astonishing, and when I am in Connecticut in the summers, very very hot and humid, it works awesome… Enjoy it. You’ll love it…
Actually, I live in Florida and I find the humidity to be a factor. Since the unit works using evaporative cooling, less of the water in it will evaporate in high humidity, thus lessening the cooling effect. In spite of this, I find that the unit does stay relatively cool, but it really only cools my neck- not my entire body, which is to be expected. I suggest you try it out in your area first. Sharper Image has developed another personal cooling system that’s designed for high-humidity areas, so it doesn’t rely on evaporative cooling. It has a cord that runs to a belt clip, and can be set to be hot or cold. I think this unit may be more effective for you, though it does cost more.
Again thanks alot for the replys, I’ll probaly just try it out and see. God I hope this works though, as the trucks at UPS that I load are about 20 degrees warmer than the outside(kind of has that “attic effect”) When it hits 100, which I’m sure it will here in Baltimore/DC (Burtonsville to be exact) I can’t imagine how I will be able to deal, except by God’s Grace.
JFMichael: Do you have a link to where I can find that new system you speak of, I have not come across it yet.
It’s called the Personal Warm+Cool System, and can be found at http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview.jhtml?sku=SI731LG2. Enjoy!
