Has anyone use Monster or an Online service to find work; how long did it take you?

Okay I have worked the last 16 yrs with my parents. Now Dad has retired but as a doctor he is not selling he is just retiring.
So–“poof” goes my job. And I don’t really want to work in another doctor’s office as Office Manager. There are reasons beyond the relationship issue. I got really burned out on Medicare, trying to collect from weasals, HIPAA, OSHA, Malpractice Ins., Commercial Ins., answering questions over and over and over, etc.
And I am not sure I want to be an Office Manager–I want to stagemanage. I want to be the one who makes the boss look good.
I want to be . . . .

(wait for it)

an Executive Assistant. To type letters from notes, arrange travel plans, produce reports, and the other duties that help the CEO look competant, pudled together & on top of his game because I am.

And I did most of this while an Office Manager anyway. However, I am told that breaking into the market is difficult.

And f*ing boy-howdy! I am beginning to believe them.

I have been sending out resumes via Monster, CareerBuilder, and just lately Job.com since 07/14. I have had 2 interviews since 08/31,with separate employers, but no feedback.

Thank God I have severance pay. But it is going to run out-and I have no savings.

I cannot dip into my IRA everagain. (Kids, do not EVER dip into your IRA if it isn’t for your 1st house. :smack: That is another, different tale.) And since I received severance pay I ain’t sure that I qualify for Welfare.

I’ve sending out an average of 1 resume a day for the last two months. Give or take. I am set up with a couple of “recruiters”/temp services but want a full-time job. I cannot commit to a temp job and interview for permenant at the same time, can I?

Most of the positions are thru temp/recruiters or you have to go thru the company’s application system. So you jumb thru hoop after hoop, give out your info time and again and nothing!

I am getting so frustrated.

If I had a job to start 10/01 I could enjoy not having to be at work. As it is I am stressed and unhappy And I am still working-I go 2/3 times wk to the parent’s house to process accounts receivables for the Medicare pt seen in August.

When should I begin to panic or lower my sights? I need to pull in a certain amount/mth or we loose the house. We can eat less and lower the amt spent on the cats’ food and litter. But there is only so much we can cut back on. :frowning:

Any advice?

I have gotten every job since around 98 via online job sites. Sometimes I’ve received phone calls literally minutes after sending my resume in.

Good luck.

Where do you live, ILovCoffee? My company is in South Florida, and we’re desperate for an executive assistant. E-mail me if you’re interested.

I recommend Craigslist: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ (pick your city)

If you get the right temp job, it can turn into full time. My sister in law covered a maternity leave, and is now working for them fulltime, as the woman decided not to return after her leave.
