Has anyone used Cost Plus Drugs for any of their medications? I’ve been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism and prescribed a drug that is outrageously expensive. I tried to use a GoodRx coupon but Kroger said the price was actually more than twice what it quoted so I imagine all the other discount coupons online will be the same. Cost Plus shows a decent price but I’m hesitant about dealing with mail order. Anyone have experience with them?
Yes, i get a few of my meds from them. They didn’t “take my insurance” , but my cost buying pills outright from them is often cheaper than the "deductible " if i go through insurance.
I’ve never had a problem. I don’t buy my estrogen patches from them, because I care which generic brand i get (they are totally different in construction, and one works and the other doesn’t) but most other drugs that i take enough of to care about the cost i purchase though cost plus drugs.
I have not used them, but if you are concerned with mail order, it is in general are very reliable. We use Amazon and it’s easy to use their app for re-ordering, and then the drugs show up our mailbox in 2 days or less (with Prime). I think it’s 5 days or less without Prime. And it’s generally less expensive getting a 90-day supply (depending on the medication).
I have several friends and relatives that use them, and all have been very happy with them. Refills arrive on time, customer service is friendly and helpful, and it’s an overall stress-free transaction. My insurance copays have so far remained cheaper than their prices, but I regularly check to see if any are worth transferring over.
Hats off to Mark Cuban for using his money for good things - at least one of my elderly relatives would not be able to afford their prescription otherwise.
I have nothing but great things about Cost Plus except…from my primary care doctor who says there are a pain in the ass from his end and asked me to keep with CVS. My meds are cheap and CVS is close by so I am doing that.
My PCP is fine with it. Maybe his staff get stuck with the annoyance. ![]()
From my end, they are transparent and easy to use, and the drugs arrive fast enough and in good condition. It’s basically the same as using the mail order feature of my “insurance”, except it is usually a lot cheaper.
It’s worth comparing, though. My husband just started taking some fabulously expensive pill as part of his chemotherapy, and the copayment through insurance is zero.
The only downside I’m aware of is that Cost Plus can ONLY process e-scrips. If you have an old fashioned doc who operates on paper scrips & fax machines, you are screwed.
If anyone has contrary experience please share.
The OP didn’t ask, but here’s a similar legit mail order outfit in KY that can deal with faxes & paper scrips. No insurance but quality workmanship throughout. Can recommend. GoGo Meds.
I use them. Partially because it’s cheap, but also because they don’t take insurance so there’s no limits on what you can buy, as long as your doctor is good with it.
One of my migraine meds, for example, the insurance company lets me have like 3 a month. When I use Cost Plus Drugs, I order 90. But my doc is absolutely fine with it.
I’ve been using them for a year or two for my diabetic meds. Very satisfied.
Ordering online is easy, once you get setup with them. They remind you when refills are due, etc. Early enough that delivery works fine, arrives on time.
Just wish that they covered more meds, like specifically insulin!
Thanks everyone for the replies. I messaged my doctor’s office yesterday and she sent in a prescription to them today. I’ve set up the account and the meds are on the way. I did notice that they are sending a 90 day supply which costs about the same as the GoodRx price Kroger had quoted to me. Now I wonder if that quote was for 90 days instead of 30 as I had assumed. I didn’t think to ask but they could have made that clear when they saw I was hesitant about the price. Anyway, from your recommendations, I think this was a good choice.
I haven’t used them, but I’ve price checked them before and they usually have the best prices on generics.
If you need to buy branded drugs, then pharmacychecker.com is probably a better option.
Used them for a few years now. Very happy. Their prices were less than the copay on my insurance. No issue from doctors about using them, the first few times I had to provide the e-script ID information but now they are a regular choice on my provider’s prescription system.
The first time i used them my doctor confirmed which pharmacy it was, and had the information in-house how to do that. I sent him the e-form to confirm who it was, but i don’t think he actually used it.
And yeah, now it’s one of the 4 pharmacies in my record i can select with a click.
