I’ve seen Pearl’s beheading video. I thought I should, since everyone with access to a TV from Algeria to Afghanistan has probably already seen it.
Honestly, it’s not very gruesome, or bloody, or gory. It is a fascinating propaganda video, especially compared to the very different style of propaganda used by western leaders.
And I think it is already being used to whip up mindless fervour in extremist islamic warriors. It paints Pearl as an icon of the West-- and juxtaposes the image of a Palestinian father futilely trying to guard his child while caught in cross-fire between Israeli and Palestinian forces-- and Pearl’s beheading shows that the West can be wiped out.
I think it reaffirms that mindless acts (of war) won’t get us out of this mess; they’re what got us into it.
Actually I think it’s a damned accurate restatment of efram’s been saying.

Should Moussoui be convicted and sentenced to death, I wonder if the Pearl video would alter sentiment as to whether or not his execution should be made public. I can’t imagine that happening but I’m sure the call would be raised.

So, milroyj attacks efrem (who had not posted in this thread at that point) from out of the blue, gobear immediately perks up and drags in a fight from another thread, and if efrem then comments on this ridiculous behaviour, he is supposed to “toughen up”.
I don’t know, but I sure as hell see two posters who need to shape up, and efrem ain’t one of them.
Why anyone would voluntarily watch a film of a soldier being beheaded? Why do people even click on rotten.com? Seriously. Are you all just in desperate need of being horrified?
