As fantastic of a character as he was, he really hasn’t had a lot to do on the show since Jimmy died. They did a good job of using him after that but he was pretty disconnected from the other stories and characters. It was a good time for his character to go.
Felt like since he got pushed to the sidelines there was only a little bit of the show left that was interesting. The little bit of Richard. Now there’s only a little little bit that is interesting.
Not sure what that is. Maybe Van Alden, I guess.
I really don’t like the Narcisse character. All of the other bad guys seem to be fighting on behalf of at least some group of people. Heck even if just their family is their group of people. Narcisse is just too selfish and two-faced for my liking. He’s fucking up the black people as much as the white people, all for his own arrogance. Not fun.
You can’t focus more on Capone now even though it’s his time, otherwise “Boardwalk Empire” will be a huge misnomer. So what the heck will they focus on next season? Hope to heck it’s not Narcisse.
They shoulda kept Richard - in next season’s finale, let him go all Terminator versus Van Alden going all Incredible Hulk.
Then they can cancel the show, because everyone from Chicago to the east coast will have been killed in the epic battle.
I think we have a lot of interesting storylines lined up for next season.
Narcisse is now working for Hoover (his “Yes, Sir” was almost as much of a character death as you can have without the person actually dying), Chalky in exile and planning his revenge, Eli heading to Chicago to work for Capone (and will be interesting to see how he interacts with Val Alden, who he knows well from encounters in earlier seasons). Mickey Doyle still alive (but with a huge life insurance policy held against him). Rothstein cooking up schemes with Margaret.
I think this season was a big improvement over the last (Gyp Rosetti was just a cartoonish villain to me) and I’m excited to see what happens next.
This was kind of a problem with the Richard character. He was turning into a superhero and if the show had kept him around just killing people left and right, he’d be less interesting.
Clearly you and I differ sharply in our interests.
I like how instead of just firing actors when their plotlines are over, this show sends their characters to Chicago, to hang out and do their own thing.
Though I guess they sent Kelly MacDonald to NYC instead of Chicago, to change things up a little.
Speaking of which, I’m not sure I’ve seen a show that had a main-character appear less then MacDonald this season. Looking at wiki, it looks like she gave birth in late 2012, so perhaps that explains it.
Nucky should’ve finished Eli off.
Deserves got nothing to do with it.
That scene where Eli killed Babyface McFBI Brown Noser was pretty damned intense.
Aw man! Richard was awesome! So sad to see him go. I knew when he kissed his wife goodbye that he was gonna get it sometime this episode, but I’ll admit, when I saw him sitting in the train I let out an involuntary “Yes!” thinking he’d somehow survived.
“They keep my face on.” Gasp
Booo on the death of Richard. Especially going out like that in that particular episode. Al’s guy pumped what, 6 shots into the boss man? No worries, he’ll be fine, heading to Europe have a good one. Richard takes one lousy shot to the gut and he’s dead? After botching the hit like a rookie?
Weaksauce.
I was fully expecting Richard to work his way up to becoming Nucky’s manservant next season. That oaf who replaced Eddie has to be getting on Nucky’s last nerve.
Thanks for the spoiler warnings, everyone.
I get the thread is about how people aren’t watching the show as much as they were, but surely courtesy dictates putting events like the death of significant characters in the most recent series spoiler boxes?
Uh no. How about you don’t read a thread about a show if you don’t want to know what happens in that show?
Take some personal responsibility. I don’t read threads about shows I haven’t seen if I don’t want to know what happens.
I figure unless the thread title refers to a specific episode (hence an expectation of discussion of events only up to and including that episode), then any and all material made available to the public is fair game, so quitcher bitching, Enfield.
That said, I found the title of the current Family Guy thread annoying. It should have been just a basic episode title and date.
Come on guys, is that really necessary? I think a request that people spoiler stuff that’s happened in the most recent season (one that’s not long finished airing in many places, or is still screening now) isn’t particularly onerous.
Request anything you want, knock yourself out.
Spoilering all discussion of the current season in the de facto current season thread would be a pretty good working definition of onerous, in my opinion.
I was weeks behind on Boardwalk Empire. So you know what I did? I kept track of the date for the first episode I hadn’t seen and only read the thread up to the day before that date. I did this for many episodes, since I was usually 3-4 weeks behind. It was super simple to do, and inconvenienced only me, as opposed to everyone else but me.
If this were a thread about TV shows in general, and someone started talking about what happened on the latest episode of Boardwalk Empire, then in that case yes spoiler boxes should be used.
This is not the case. This thread is specifically about one TV show, and specifically about the currently airing season. If you haven’t yet seen it, why would you even *want *to read it full of spoiler boxes? The thread would be nothing but black boxes.
I know you are in New Zealand, so you may get the show at a different time than it first airs in the US. Why you would then choose to read a thread on a US message board, about a show, the day after the finale airs, and then be upset that the thread actually talks about what just happened in the show is beyond me.
If I don’t want to know what happens on Downton Abbey before it airs in the US, would you think it wise for me to visit a UK message board and read a Downton thread there?
More spoiling …
Do I understand correctly that the hit on Narcisse was in exchange for the info on where to find Jimmy’s body? Also, was there another body in the same grave?
Yes to the first point. Not sure on the second, but I didn’t see anything to make me think there were two bodies there.
Also, not sure if this was discussed yet, but do I have this right: Agent Knox’s murder is being pinned on Marcus Garvey which was part of the deal Hoover made with Narcisse, correct? So is Eli running off to Chicago for nothing?
