Has Mini Disc production been halted?

I read on some webpage that was linked from waxy.org, thats they indeed had been stopped due to low demand or something.

Can anyone confirm these claims? With a site?

Minidisc is alive and well.

Thanks ooga, but I knew I could of checked those sites.
Perhaps, it is going to go out of date soon, is more of what I meant. I would never expect it too dissapear 1 day after reading about it on that site. (which I have yet to find)

Do you personally beleive the MD format will soon deminish?

If Minidiscs fall out of favor for personal music, their lifespan will be greatly extended by their use in broadcast production. Minidiscs and DATs are very commonly used as high-quality, yet easily portable recording formats for radio station news departments. Similarly, while Betamax is dead, a similar videotape format is used for high-quality recording at TV stations.

And, for what it’s worth, a MD player is a dealer-installable option on new Mazda MPV minivans. I don’t know anyone, myself, who uses Minidiscs. I doubt they’ll be used for consumer purposes much at all in the future, with the advent of smaller, larger capacity, and higher quality MP3 or AAC players.
