Has my employer breached my privacy?

I had a role in my work where we sent out emails to customers. I work for a large organisation. The email is just a form letter saying we have made changes to your customer account. Unbeknownst to me the email showed my full name as the sender, not my organisation.
When I complained about this breach of privacy my employer had two responses-it is not a breach as we only gave out your name.
Secondly they said that in certain roles you should know you would expect to give out your full name.
Any help?

What’s your role in the company? What’s your title or job description?

If you work in the warehouse picking and packing orders, the action was out of line. However, I’m going to guess that they made you the sender of that email because you have (at least ostensibly) a customer facing position in the company.

Need more detail, but my initial reaction is that you’re right to be pissed off that you were given no advance notice nor input into the content of a mass email that was sent out bearing your name. However, this is nowhere near a breach of privacy. There was no private information of yours disclosed. Is it a secret that you work there? As far as “it showed my name, not the name of the organization” well, they didn’t send it from your gmail account. The fact that they made you the representative of your organization is clear to all recipients. They sent it from your professional email address on their domain.

It was a dickish move of management/marketing/whomever, but responding with complaints of breach of privacy is a pretty fucking weak response and misses the main offense. They sent an email with content that they represented as yours without your consent or approval. That should be your complaint.

I am just a back-of-house drone in secter 7G. I do not have a customer-facing role. The letter is a form letter which is signed by a general manager. The letter looks just like one sent in the mail. Except that it is emailed instead. So I am not actually the representative of my organization. I am just the person who licked the stamp and posted the letter.
But becuase it was an email it had a ‘sender’ position. I assumed that in the ‘sender’ part it would say from ‘Account maintenance’. I have had these emails sent to me from my own company and in the sender field they say things like ‘Dispute resolution’ or ‘Account maintenance’.
The content of the letter is fairly innocuous. It says the equivalent of we are giving you a discount of 10% on your bill. So I cannot be upset about having my name on that becuase of the content alone. If it said we are disconnecting your electricity because you are a deadbeat who does not pay your bill, I could be upset they had my name involved in such letters.
