It was all I had been waiting for. I rarely watched live TV, but was reluctant to give up the couple of shows I watch on HBO. Game of Thrones is great, but I did feel guilty paying a hundred bucks a month to watch it.
Now, even with HBO NOW, Netflix and Hulu, I’m only paying 30-something dollars a month for my television needs. I’m perfectly comfortable with that.
I don’t know if we’ll ever see a truly a la carte system, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
We have already cut the cord, so technically no. But that looks compelling. I’m sort of in the process of watching Game of Thrones through Netflix DVDs, but that has devolved into leaving the same disks lying around for months at a time while we use our limited TV time budget for other shows. So your thread has prompted me to propose switching to Netflix streaming only and add HBO when I get back to the house
Cord cutting is easy for us because no one in the house watches live sports. If I understand things correctly, there are still not good options for that online. But I think for everything else there are other legal options for most things, especially if being completely up to date isn’t a priority.
Yes, the decision was made much easier by the fact that I’ve lost more and more interest in football over the last few years and my grown son (who has not) recently moved to his own place.
I considered subscribing to HBO. I have never really watched it and went looking for what shows they had. The big one, of course, was The Godfather, which I have no interest in watching. Then, there is Game of Thrones. I am a bit surprised because I watched the first season of GoT and decided that I wasn’t interested in more, but I have no idea how I watched it since I have never subscribed to HBO.
Showtime has a similar option but the only show I might watch is Queer as Folk, but not definitely although I very much enjoyed it.
Starz also has something similar but I haven’t looked at it yet.
I have Dish Network at home, but only watch selected recorded shows. I also pick and choose stuff on Netflix, Amazon and Google; some You Tube and various.
I hate paying the money I am paying, but I guess I am not ready for cord cutting yet.
