Has the SDMB ever been banned from somewhere?

We’re looking to implement another solution to our capacity problem.

And the Reader has tended to be very picky about content management, so your answer is most likely no based on history, but I am not a member of the tech department nor Reader management and so I cannot do more than tell you what’s gone down before.

The message board software as it currently stands does not support a multi-tier/multi-server environment as you envision. I do not foresee that happening any time soon either.

As long as we’re still accessible to the uninformed, it’s not a total loss.

I’ve been on a multitude of bases, some allow access, some don’t. It’s a crap shoot on where you go and what the policies are. However, a majority don’t since it’s considered a “message board” or “web chat”.

I’ll lay $25 on the “Don’t Pass/Banned” line most days of the week.

Agreed. It’s nice that I get to enjoy the benefits of being a friend of someone who works for Entemann’s, while remaining free from their oppressive firewall.

When I worked for a large International Business (company) they were very liberal about what we could view on the internet. I never tried any sex sites but often, when I saw people were going to walk by and be able to view my screen I switched from the Straight Dope to another screen so I wouldn’t have to explain why I was viewing something about narcotics. (Dope)
Anybody else have this problem?

The filtering configuration used is pretty much set up on a command to command basis. I read the dope for two years behind one a military firewall.

They tend to arbitrarily block any occurance of a word on a page. For instance, mp3 occuring anywhere, even on the front of news.bbc.co.uk, was banned for me. I guess “dope” isn’t too far down on the list of bad words.

In Communist North Korea, you ban SDMB!

My current workplace has blocked SDMB (but NOT straightdope.com) for the last year, but apparently it’s the result of a general policy that is triggered by a “tag” on the SDMB page.

Which is a Good Thing, considering the effect it had on my productivity in my prior workplace. Ah, the freedom of academia, aw, the restrictions of government…
