Has there ever been a good direct to video movie?

It’s an actual movie, though it has three “acts” simply because of the conceit that first the characters are shown arriving for their opening night screening of their Stewie movie, then the actual movie begins immediately, then after the movie “ends”, the afterparty in their honor happens.

Animatrix

Is good?

Some Animatrix is very good, some of it is quite week. Still worth watching though (which is probably more than can be said for Matrix part 3 )

Oh yeah. If I were to rank all the Matrix movies, it would come in second to the original.

Last Flight of the Osiris and the Second Renaissance were great.

Prince of Jutland a.k.a Royal Deceit
I don’t know if this was a TV movie or a theatrical film in Europe, but it was direct-to-video in the USA.

That, , and Aladdin and the King of Thieves along with are way better than the usual DtV animated movies like all that Land Before Time dreck.

I agree that those two segments were good, but for the most part it was something that put me to sleep.

The Ginger Snaps trilogy. Wendigo, I believe, did not have a theatrical run. May. And Cube, which while there is some questionable acting, is more enjoyable than a number of movies I’ve seen in theatres.

Last Flight of the Osiris was released in theatres, it played before Dreamcatcher. A lot of movies mentioned here got theatrical releases, if somewhat limited. The best direct to video movie I’ve seen is Retroactive with James Belushi.

I thought Cube, and Cube 2:Hypercube both had Theatre releases?

Cube Zero however did not. That is, it was direct to DVD.

And its perhaps the best of the Trillogy. Even If I had to pay 20 bucks for it, sight unseen.
Also, I thought Ripleys Game was in Theatres as welll.

I’m curious, did you prefer I or II? I haven’t seen Cube Zero yet, but I did enjoy both Cube and Cube II, for different reasons.

Toy Story 2 was originally conceived and intended to be a direct-to-video release, but it was upgraded to a theatrical release after Disney realized just how good (i.e potentially profitable) it was.

I believe Interstella 5555, the Leiji Matsumoto/Daft Punk techno space opera, was direct to video
