Has there ever been a successful Broadway musical sequel?

Define “successful”. Everyone agrees that Love Never Dies was awful, but I’ll bet it made a big pile of money anyway.

I doubt it. The London production was a mess and it never made it to Broadway. Pretty much every attempt to revive it has collapsed within a few months.

I can’t find actual financials (except a New York Post article calling it a $10 million disaster, but, you know, New York Post), but musicals are expensive and it takes a fairly significant run to make up costs.

As was pointed out, it is very difficult to believe it made any money.
