Has Zero Tolerance gone too far?

So you would allow guns in school?

Sure. I wouldn’t encourage it, but I wouldn’t outlaw it. I could even see some interesting show-and-tells involving firearms. Not to mention gun safety classes.

We should teach children to control and protect themselves so that we can minimize the danger posed by the few real criminals in our midst. Having the capability to kill or hurt other people is a big part of our own humanity – something we should all be aware of and understand.

I mentioned earlier that we could have rifles at school when I was in high school (I graduated in 1991 in Louisiana) during deer season. No one ever thought anything of it because lots of kids (including one hot girl) liked to hunt before school. I am told the same thing has/is been allowed in many rural school districts across the country which makes sense that lots of these people will have rifles in their vehicles for the same reason in their future blue collar jobs. We all had guns at home. They were just tools and hardly mentally striking to anyone.

The reason there is a redneck stereotype of gun racks in pickup trucks isn’t because people are being tacky. Hiding them concealed carry and often against the law so anyone could walk through the school parking lot and see who had guns in their vehicle freely. It never caused any problems. Someone that wanted to cause a problem would be the one with a pistol hidden somewhere else.

I transferred to another school for a semester for family reasons and I was on the rifle team and did quite well. It was the only way I found I could fit in there before I transferred back. Again, no problems with my school sanctioned sniper training.
