hate crimes

Why isn’t rape considered a hate crime? According to the “experts”, it has nothing to do with sex, but rather control/intimidation.

I think it would be, if people didn’t already consider it a different drime in itself. “Hate Crime” although rarely used on this side of the Atlantic, seems to be a catch-all phrase, that refers to many different types of intimidation / incitement to violence. Rape is a seperate crime.

That’s what I think…

Sorry, one other thing - It obviously (at least on a physical level) has some very strong links to sex - hence its classification as a sex-crime…

“Hate Crime” is a term used primarily by politicians and means little legally. The hate crimes laws that are on the books in the US are often very vague and of little use. They generally cover things such as assault, murder, intimidation, harassment and so on that is related to racism. As Tarantula notes, there already exist criminal laws to deal with these crimes, so the term “hate crime” is mired in ambiguity and means different things, if anything, in each jurisdiction.

Because anything that isn’t Officially Identified by Experts as a “hate crime” is actually a Love Crime.
