Back in March I ordered a second-hand book (through Abebooks) from a company called Great Buy Books located in Lakewood, WA U.S.A. The promise was the book would be delivered, at the latest by May 25. Nearly ten weeks down the line I still have not received my book. I have e-mailed the seller twice, but haven’t received a reply or even an acknowledgement.
Have any other dopers had dealings with this book-seller or, indeed, does anyone live in Lakewood and knows if this dealer is still in business? I have also contacted Abebooks, but have not received a reply from then as yet.
The actual book is only worth a few pounds (in fact the shipping charge costs more than the book) but I would still like to get the book I paid for.
Wow, I just bought from them through ABE about 2 weeks ago. I got it last Tuesday or so, no problems. But I live in the continental US - they may have had some problems since you are in the UK. They still should have contacted you. Have you considered calling them?
I have just e-mailed them again. My first two messages were sent through the “ask the seller a question” link . This time I used the address given in the initial sales confirmation e-mail. I have also contacted Abebooks and received a very swift reply. They said that I can claim a refund 10 days after the final date given (May 25 ) in the sale confirmation. Let’s hope that by sending my query through via that different route they might reply.
As to calling them, there is no phone number given anywhere , just a PO box number.
Have never had dealings with the bookseller in question, but I used to buy merchandise from another US site that sent everything in regular ground shipping… whatever that is, but Im in Ireland and it used to take weeks! It could be something similar.
I remember waiting the best part of two months to get certain things.
Now that the 15 days past the final promised delivery date has passed, I have got my refund. Abebooks have initiated this, not the bookseller. Since I last posted I have sent off three more e-mails to the seller, still with no reply. I notice that they still have lots of books for sale on Abebooks , so I presume they are still in business.
I have written to Abebooks suggesting that they remove Great Buy Books from their site because of this very poor service and lack of communication to customers.
