The title is the question: have any new Kmart stores opened in the United States in the past few years? Not Sears, Sears Grand, Sears Hardsware, but rather a real Kmart.

And moved from IMHO to General Questions because the answer involves facts, not opinion.
This article talks about a KMart opening in 2007. But it’s in New Zealand.
Actually, here in FL, it is just the opposite. KMarts are closing like crazy across the state.
Sad, I actually really like KMart.
It’s not just Florida. KMarts are closing all over. I assume that’s the context of the OP’s question.
I prefer K-Mart to Wal*Mart, if only because I slightly prefer waiting interminably in line to having to negotiate my way down every hallway. It’s the department store I go to the most, if only because it’s a mile or less from my apartment, versus several miles for the others. Even if it were worse I’d still go there because of the convenience.
But this K-Mart has been there for over 12 years. Haven’t seen a new one open anywhere I’ve been in at least that long (and one actually closed on the barrier islands in the past few years, but that makes sense as real estate there is more expensive.)
There was apparently one in Alabama a couple of years ago. But the store replaced one that had been destroyed by a tornado, so it doesn’t really count.

Other than that, the last Kmart I see that opened was in 2002 in South Jersey.
