Last time I tried to shut down my WinMe system, I got a standard Windows popup box informing me that a program was busy, and did I want to wait, end it, etc. The program was called “B’s CLiP.”
A quick Google search tells me that “B’s CLiP” is the name of a UDF packet writer, but I didn’t find much else of use.
The problem is, before this I had never heard of B’s CLiP. The packet writer installed on my system is InCD, which came bundled with Nero. Also a search of my local hard drive shows nothing called B’s CLiP.
Can this sort of thing be installed and run on my system remotely? Anyone ever hear of anything like this?
I have B’s Clip installed on one of my computers and it seems to boast the ability to let you “use CD-RW… as you would a floppy disk”. I think it was most likely installed in some bundle, perhaps by a meddlesome friend. I can’t imagine why someone would sneak into your system and install a program like this. I don’t know why you can’t find it on your HDD.
A good way to prevent spyware from automatically downloading to your system is to set your internet privacy to medium high. I have not been bothered with spyware since I did that. Instead of the stealth download, you will get a normal popup asking to install it. In this way, I have avoided repeated “infections” from programs such as Internet Washer, Xupiter, SaveNow and a few others.
The medium high setting will block some cookies, so it you frequent a site that needs this ability and doesn’t meet the criteria to access your system, you can override the security for that site.
