Have links to YouTube been disabled?

I added &2 and it worked, &1 failed likely because you used &1 in your test (Edit: see your edit which confirms this).

But if I try to edit that post it fails perpetually and further incrementing of that string does not resolve it.

And now I can no longer post the plain link as that fails. Seems the post in the other thread is now blocking that link.

Edited the post in the other thread to be a time stamp with &6 at the end and it worked.

Testing to see is the plain link now works here…nope this fails even though the original post no longer uses it.

Once a link has EVER been posted to Discourse the trap is sprung. Deleting the link from your post later does nothing to delete the cached thumbnail on Discourse’s servers which is the cause of all this unhappiness.

So if your link won’t post or you need to edit, just keep trying different suffixes until you hit on one nobody has used.

What am I, Matthew Broderick in War Games? I have to have the reflexes of a blind pinball player to post a video? Or I have to a class at the local CC for some coding knowledge?

Can’t you people just fix this, ferchrissakes?

There is nobody home at SDMNB tech support. All you need to know is close the preview window before adding the vid link to your post. Not so hard.

Annoying as fuck? Yes. Difficult? No.

I believe you still have to be quick about it. At least you used to and I haven’t tried otherwise (and I rarely have the preview box up).
Let me try it… I’ll leave this pasted here while I’m typing, with no preview box.

Well, that worked. Guess I don’t have to use Notepad when I want more than one in a single post.
But you still can’t edit it.

You do not need to be quick at all. If you close the preview window before you insert the link. It’s the automatic previewing of your link that triggers the bug. You can either be faster than the computer, or smarter. Smarter is easier.

That didn’t work - I just tried. Personally, I’d rather the people who run the site just get their shit together.

Test:
Det. Sgt. Nick Yemana. - YouTube

(closed preview window first)

Test 2:

Det. Sgt. Nick Yemana. - YouTube

(did not close preview window first)

“first” meaning before typing/pasting in the link, or before trying to post it?

Test:

(copied URL at 1-second mark, pasted with preview window closed)

You are posting text with an embedded link to a YouTube web site. You will not get an error doing that, because you won’t have a video embedded in your post. It will just be a link to the page.

We’ve never had problems doing that as far as I know.

Before typing/pasting in the link:

Det. Sgt. Nick Yemana. - YouTube

Before trying to post it:
Det. Sgt. Nick Yemana. - YouTube

ETA: I give up, what am I doing wrong?

mmm

You still aren’t posting the bare link. Your post should look like this:

Here is the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ3OEY380Uc

Except that probably won’t work now due to the bug, but you can do this instead:

Here is the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ3OEY380Uc&2

Looks like I’ve got it,

thanks, all!

mmm

ETA: The following was composed before your most recent attempts.

No, it doesn’t look like you did—otherwise your link URL would end with &1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ3OEY380Uc&ab_channel=RubeShedStudio

But if you had, it wouldn’t work anyway since I’ve already posted the video at the 1-second mark.
