Have Little Lord Fauntleroy shorts come back in style for little kids?

This is truly mundane. LOL
I admit that my curiosity has been stoked.

Kid’s Shorts were just going out of style during my childhood. It was considered very dated. Something grandparents wanted their little kids to wear. A certain amount of teasing ensued at the playground.

Many adults my age cringe at old family photos. Poor kid. LOL Better him than me. The blog, my parents made me wear this, is hilarious. I read several of them and parents questionable taste is pretty universal.

The main blog. Great read
I’ve never seen any of the little kids in my neighborhood in shorts. EVER. I’m pretty sure they’d be absolutely mortified playing hoops in them.

I rubbed my eyes and did a double take when I saw a photo of Prince William and his children. LOL It looks so incredibly dated. Like a colorized childhood photo from the 1940’s. I haven’t seen a young girl in that style dress in forty years. My little girls wore dresses to church, but not that dated style.

I know parents love dressing up their young kids. My wife did it with my daughters. It doesn’t last very long before the child develops his/her own fashion sense.

Edit time out screwed me before I could get the link posted.

Say do what, now? I live in the American South, where children (and the vast majority of adults) wear shorts whenever possible for the bulk of the year. Though the style and preferred length may change with the times, shorts themselves have never gone out of fashion.

Besides your strange assertion that shorts have gone out of style (considering that it’s July and I haven’t seen a child in something other than shorts in about a month), the clothing that royal children wear for a state visit is obviously going to be much different from what the kid down the street wears to play in. The British royals in particular opt to dress their children in the kind of old-fashioned, timeless, non-trendy styles in order to present a more formal appearance for three reasons: one being that it looks better in pictures and shows respect to the event they’re present at, two being that it’s a typical style for upper-class children of their social class, and three being that when the children are wearing old-fashioned clothing in their public photos, it makes it more difficult to identify them in “street clothes” and attracts less attention when they are going to school or out with the nanny.

On top of that, there isn’t anything strange about what either kid is wearing. Charlotte is wearing a floral dress and George is wearing shorts and a button-down shirt, all of which are available in kids’ stores all through the land.

Shorts are pretty common in Virginia. For kids and adults of all ages.

If you were talking about the bloused knickers, lace collar and ruffled shirt, yeah, that’s not so common these days.

If shorts are considered strange where you live, then I hope you’re in Alaska or otherwise in the great North. Beyond that, if you’re trying to convince people to not wear shorts when it’s hot, then that’s just stupid.

I wasn’t referring to athletic shorts or sweats.
These are seen everywhere.

I guess you folks aren’t getting The Little Lord Fauntleroy vibe. The shorts, socks and penny loafers. It reeks of grandma and Sunday dinners.

For me it was a big jolt of deja Vu 1964.

It’s not a big deal. Just a mundane thought on a boring Wed.

My grandma and her Sunday dinners smelled just fine, thanks. I’m sorry you were not so fortunate.

I don’t get what you’re talking about in regards to shorts, either.

I had to dress up to go for Sun dinners at Grandma’s.

Sorry if I’m not being clear. I guess this is too personal a memory for others to understand.

That could have been me in that photo in 1964. I always hated those shorts and all the fuss of getting my hair combed. I couldn’t wait to get old enough to wear pants like the older kids.

He’s the freaking grandson of the heir apparent, a Prince of the Realm and third in line for the throne. What’s he supposed to be wearing- a dinosaur t-shirt, some nondescript athletic shorts and some crocs? Of course he’s got the kid equivalent of business-casual on.

Beyond that, there’s a trend for “smocks” among some moms these days, which are more old-timey looking than you’re probably used to. Google “Smock clothes boys” and see what I’m talking about.

Dressy shorts for little boys are pretty common here. No one wants to wear long pants in the summer and dressy shorts make it so little boys don’t have to when attending events where athletic attire isn’t appropriate.

As for Charlotte’s dress, nearly every little girl I’ve ever known had at least one dress like that for a dressy occasion. It’s not outdated, it’s classic.

I found an article on Kate’s choice of clothing for the kids.

I had no idea parents rush out to buy whatever clothes they see the royal children wear.

I remember Diana influenced fashion in the 80’s. She seemed to be really into fashion. She was constantly on the covers of nearly every magazine.

So, you’ve answered your own question: Yes, those kind of shorts are back in fashion (in Great Britain, at any rate) because she just set the fashion.

How awesome would it be if she had chosen, say, dinosaur costumes or Blue Man Group outfits? They’d be everywhere…

Maybe they can cut a deal with Nike? The Air Georges shoe. LOL

It just looks like little kids’ clothes to me.

Mine dress like that only half the time, and wear Garanimals the rest because I hate ironing. But seriously, I was expecting actual LittleLordgarb. Frankly, though, I think I’ve got pics of all four of my kids in little sailor suits kicking about somewhere because y’know,it’s cute.

What should toddlers wear? Levis and leather jackets?

Those are totally ordinary small children clothes… where do you get the idea otherwise???

Did you photocopy the covers them back then and hold them under people’s noses to start conversations? Guys! I just read that there’s a big wall in Berlin! I wonder how much wallpaper it needs!

I cannot comprehend what the OP is complaining about.

Since when are khaki shorts “athletic”?
