Our local mall has elevators installed by the Schindler Company. I drive my hubby nuts by calling it “Schindler’s Lift.”

In the UK they actually are called Schindler’s Lifts. It’s on the plaque in the lift and everything.

And I think you’ll find that if you go abroad, then most people will understand the primary meaning of “New York” to be the City of New York.

Oh I know. You quickly learn that people don’t know NY geography when you go to college in the western tip of the state and an international student asks if you want to pop down to New York City for a night of barhopping while they’re standing in the western tip of the state.
