I saw somebody on Twitter recently opine that there have been several recent mass shootings by avowed Donald Trump supporters that have been buried by the “corporate media” because they’re secretly in cahoots with Donald Trump and don’t want to cast him in a bad light.
Does anybody know what this person is talking about? I’m trying to google and not finding anything specifically Trump focused unless you go all the way back to Nikolas Cruz in 2018 which was well known at the time. They also aren’t talking about the Jewish synagogue shooting, they’re specifically talking about shootings that were “buried” thus nobody knows anything about them.
This doesn’t track. Social media and alternative media outlets are influential enough that these shootings wouldn’t have to be unknown. Half of the public would not exactly be loath to believe and spread the word if they saw evidence.
Maybe this person thinks Facebook and Twitter are colluding also. I’d look for indicators of being paranoid of having a suspended or blocked Twitter account. Other conspiratorial associations are probable, it’s a question to the degree of immersion. Anti-Semitism is possible if this person acknowledges the synagogue shooting was covered. Or this person means these stories are literally being buried, like conspiracies amounting to the opposite of shooting hoaxes with crisis actors: it really did happen, the evidence was destroyed, any witnesses gagged, and the shooter sent to live in Guam.
I could conceive the possibility that they are simply attempting to use the right’s penchant for conspiracy theories against them, by using their same tactics to argue that something is secretly their fault. This person could be someone pushing that, or, more likely, one who believes it.
However, they could be talking about the mass shootings that happen more regularly that just don’t make national news. Were you aware there were over 30 mass shootings in the US in 2019? I wasn’t. And I definitely don’t know if any of them were Trump supporters, which would be the part being “covered up.”
Honestly, the only way to know is to ask. Twitter is an interactive medium. Ask for a list or a link to the place where they got this idea.
The fact someone may have been a Trump supporter in and of itself wouldn’t necessarily be relevant in the basic reporting of a shooting. Fallacious reasoning could also be a problem, or an inability to apply the standard consistently to shooters who happened to have supported other causes.
Well I’ve seen a few analyses of how the media (and indeed police) treat hate crimes that seem to be motivated by white supremacism differently to other motivations; they can be reluctant to call them hate crimes let alone terrorism let alone link them in any way.
Possibly the random twitter person misunderstood, or heard by Chinese whisper this kind of analysis.
Let’s pretend for a second that spending time researching crazy talk from twitter isn’t a fools errand. You think so highly of the SD crowd you think we’d know about mass shootings that weren’t in the news and didn’t appear on google, and so little of us you think we wouldn’t be up in arms about it?
I mean there was no actual topic about the Smollet case nor was there one about the Houston child who was initially said to have been shot by a white supremacist. We do have a topic that tries to catalog all mass shootings though.
Ask this person for details. Ask for the date, location, and identity of the shooter in one of these incidents, preferably several such incidents. Ask them to provide evidence that the shooting actually happened AND that it was covered up.
I recently read on Twitter that CIA director Gina Haspel is a pedophile. Because she wore a blouse printed with a white hat pattern to the SOTU. Apparently the hats printed on her blouse were the EXACT SAME KIND OF HATS that 16th century pedophiles made their victims wear so they could be identified. Case closed, lock her up.
It is not an exaggeration to say that the MSM in America hates Trump with a passion, and would do everything in its power to bring him down. The idea that they would do anything to protect him, let alone covering up a mass shooting, is too grotesque even to be funny.
This isn’t even a good conspiracy theory, because a good conspiracy theory has to be at least slightly plausible.
Seconded. Look, I dislike the guy and don’t believe anything he says or does. But even I have to look at this as a serious WTF. It would take too many people in too many “right places” to even consider it and I don’t think anyone ever alive could pull it off today.
