Assuming you’re serious (which I have trouble believing): You do realize, don’t you, that that’s just a translation of something that was originally written in Hebrew? If you’re going to base a theological argument on word choice, you have to consider the original language.

It may have previously seen to be full of contradictions, but then the very first sentence has been misread for 2,000 years. Those contradictions should be reassessed in the light of a correct **soilist **reading. I think you’ll find it should all slot together after that false predicate is corrected, because the bible is the word of God.
I smell a straw man. Even strict Biblical inerrantists don’t claim that all translations of the Bible are infallible.
They are weak in faith, and they haven’t spotted the essential error.
Even if you believe that the Bible is the word of God, you have to believe (unless you want to believe in obvious contradictions) that it’s the original text of the Bible (which for the Old Testament means that it’s in Hebrew) which is the word of God. Otherwise you would have to believe that all editions are the word of God. This would mean, for instance, that the Wicked Bible was the word of God. The Wicked Bible was a printing of the King James Bible where there was a misprint in the Ten Commandments which changed the commandment to “Thou shall commit adultery.” Are you going to claim that that is also the word of God?:

If you’re going to assert that the Bible is the word of God, you can do one of three things: First, you can claim that all of them are the word of God, and therefore all of the contradictory translations are the word of God. Second, you can claim that you and you alone are able to say that a particular translation is the word of God, because you and you alone are the sole person on Earth who has that ability to pick out the correct translation. (And perhaps you’ve noticed that nobody other than you on the SDMB believes that.) Third, you can claim that the original version is the word of God, in which case you have no access to it because you don’t know Hebrew (or Greek).
Unless it correctly places soil as fundamental to Genesis then I’ll have no truck with your wicked bible heresies.
So, as I expected, either you want to claim that you and you alone are qualified to say what the meaning of every phrase in the Bible is or else you don’t actually want to ask us a question at all, since this is all just a big joke for you.

Which did God create first: animals or human beings?
The first chapter of Genesis says God created the animals first and then created people. The second chapter of Genesis says God created people first and then created the animals.
It’s a pretty simple story. First there was just sea, and then God created land and sky. It’s a creation myth, not rocket science.

I have read it in Hebrew, in Hebrew School. Capital letters had not yet been invented. And if God’s natural language is English, he would have made it simpler.
