I’ve been paid for shawls I designed and knitted.
I’ve been paid for dresses I designed and sewed.
I’m a writer!
I did a few eHow articles last year, and completely forgot about them until I got paid!
Shameful plugs:
I went home and asked my wife, “What makes a writer” – she quickly replied, “Getting paid for it.”
I whipped out my paypal print out ----- “I’m a writer!”
Way back when, while soldiering for my undergrad student newspaper, sold some photographs to the AP and a couple of big city dailies.

I got a free oil change for drawing smiling cars on the windows of the local car dealership.
totally counts
Yes. I am a beadworker and have sold several of my original pieces, in the range of $45-125. Not a huge amount, but I am pleased that people like my work.
I’ve won prizes for two short films I made, one of which paid $200 and one of which paid $550. (The budget for both films was about $30 total.)
Once when I worked at the paper (though not as a reporter or photographer), I happened to come upon a fairly horrifying traffic accident right after it happened. Having a point-and-shoot digital camera in my pocket, I quickly shot some pictures, and when I went in to work that night I sent them to the newsroom folks. They ran one and paid me $60.
And I once donated a set of four photos in a big single frame to our local public TV station for their annual art auction. The pictures won an honorable mention, and someone bid $40 for them. So I didn’t actually get paid, but someone did pay money for the photos. I wonder if someday I’ll be at someone’s house and see my photos hanging on the wall; I have no idea who bought them.
