The world circumnavigates me.
Nope. I’ve been to Israel and Jordan, but not crossed the Equator.
I am so close (over multiple trips.)
My gap? Nepalgang, Nepal to Kathmandu…a gap of about 400 kilometers in Nepal that I have never crossed. I’ve been around the world from either direction except that tiny little slice between Nepalgang and Kathmandu which I have never ventured into.
Strange to think about. Of all the places to be my personal no-man’s-land.
SFO to Cape Town is the closest I’ve done to laterally circumnavigating the globe, but I have crossed the equator and have the certificate to prove it.
Seoul-London-Houston-NYC-London-Belfast-Seoul is the closest I’ve gotten. I had a wedding to attend in Texas and afterwards planned to spend the rest of the summer in Ireland. Logically my route should have been Seoul-Houston-NYC-London-Belfast-Seoul, but it was cheaper to buy a round trip Seoul-London and then a roundtrip London-Houston.
I’ve done about 1/2 the world I think. I’ve been as far west as LA and as far east as Moscow. In one year I’ve been between Romania and LA. I have all intentions of going around the world at some point in time.
I’ve flown to Bangkok from the east and the west, and I’ve been south of the equator, so I guess so. Not one journey, however.
I’ve circumnavigated the sun many times. It’s bigger. Does that count?
Yes, over a two week business trip starting from the US and going to:
China
Singapore
Germany
UK
Back to US
It’s actually pretty cool. I’ve done it several times, and every time lots of interesting stuff happens.
For longitude, I’m missing the chunk between Vietnam and Moscow (or Kenya, whichever is nearer). I’ve been as far south as Jo-burg, SA and way above the Arctic Circle to Pt. Barrow. I’ve stood on the equator in Uganda.
Crossed all longitudes, but not the equator. I still can’t quite believe the occasion (quite some years ago) when I passed up a chance for paid airfare and expenses around the world. :dubious: :smack:
I’ve flown into Singapore’s Airport, including once when he had to dodge wide-spread volcano ashes in the sky. I suppose I could try to Google for it, but I’m on SDMB, so one of you probably knows. Did I cross the Equator on approach to Changi Airport from the North? (If so, Mods change my Poll answer, please.)
Highly unlikely: Singapore is more than a degree north of the Equator.
Not even close:
Furthest West/North = Vancouver, BC area specifically , went North to Sechelt, went west to Nanaimo.
Furthest East = Portland, Maine
Furthest South = Cuernavaca, Mexico (I think it is further South, than Cancun or Grand Cayman Islands)
I’ve managed to cross a bit more than half of the longitudes, but I’m missing the ones between Sydney and Dubrovnik, Croatia. I’ve crossed the equator a few times.
Interesting. I’ve crossed the equator and covered almost half the longitudes.
My East-West travels total 164° and range from the west coast of Vancouver Island (125°W) to Zanzibar (39°E).
My North-South travels total 64° are bounded by and Northern Scotland (58°N) to Zanzibar (6°S).
We hope to add Australia/New Zealand to the list in the future, but I don’t think we’ll make it around the world on that trip. I wonder if I could talk my wife into an Antarctic cruise.
I’ve been not quite halfway around the globe, but strictly in the Northern Hemisphere.
Furthest west: Olympic Peninsula, WA, 124°20’ W.
Furthest east: Samara, Russia, 50°06’ E.
Furthest north*: Moscow, Russia - 55°45’ N
Furthest south: St. Thomas, USVI - 18°20’ N
*On the ground, that is. Given that the shortest route by air between Moscow and NYC takes one considerably further north in latitude than either city, I’m sure that the furthest north I’ve actually been has been at the northernmost point of a flight between JFK and SVO.
Haven’t crossed the equator, and am missing the chunk between Samarkand and Tokyo. One of these days, though… especially if I get on the Trans-Siberian like I want to.
My circumnavigation took two years, when i was in my early twenties. I stayed for extended periods in the UK and Canada, and made some side trips, but the main route was:
Sydney > Brisbane > Singapore > London > Manchester > Toronto > Vancouver > Los Angeles > Sydney.
One trip, when I was in the Navy;
San Diego to Norfolk by plane.
Aircraft carrier from Norfolk to Guantanamo to Rio, then around the tip of Africa to the Philippines.
Aircraft carrier again back and forth to Viet Nam.
Carrier to Hong Kong and Japan.
Plane from Japan to Norton Air Force Base in San Bernadino, CA.
Car from San Berdoo to San Diego.
