Well, I tried to get Directv at my apt, but the builidngs blocked too much of the signal. So, my dreams of getting the NFL Sunday Ticket are gone.
Still, I’m thinking of signing up for one of the digital cable sports packages. I’m leaning towards the NBA league pass. Anyone ever had such a subscription? Did you find yourself using it?
I’m actually more of a fan of college basketball than the NBA. However, I’ve never thought there was not enough college basketball on tv!
I’m thinking with the NBA package there will be a game on almost every single day. While I don’t really have a favorite team, there are quite a few teams I support and watch.
I might also consider the NHL package. I like hockey and there sure isn’t enough on tv. But, NHL games tend to be more clustered, so you’re not likely to get a game every single night. After work, I really like a beer and a game.
So, any experience from other dopers? Did you find yourself getting burned out with so many games?
I don’t see why you couldn’t get a hockey game almost every night. They’re not that clustered.
My only experience was back in the Dark Ages, ~1989. The Baltimore Orioles had a pay channel that showed all their games. I had no problem watching almost all of 'em. Oh, and I got MLB’s radio subscription this year, but only used it to listen to the Orioles.
We had NHL Center Ice from 2000 to 2004, and absolutely loved it. IIRC, there wasn’t a game on every night, but at least 3 or 4 times a week, and with time zone differences, we could catch a couple games in their entirety each of those nights. During the playoffs, it was especially wonderful.
Plus, Direct TV refunded our advance payment for last year without any nonsense.
I wish we could get it again this year, especially with ESPN not running any games. It’s well worth every cent, if you can afford it, but at this particular time, we have other priorities.
I thought you meant something like season tickets for a team. Speaking of which, what happend to people who had tickets for games 5, 6 and 7 of the World Series? Were the tickets refunded? Sorry for the hijack, but just was wondering.
I have cable instead of satellite, which means I can’t get the NFL package; my provider has the NBA option instead of NFL. If I could get it I definitely would, just to be able to watch the Falcons every week.
We’ve had MLB Video for a couple of seasons now. We’re St. Louis Cardinals fans, but we live to far to get the games on cable. I can click on MLB.com and see almost every game on my computer. I’m mostly happy with it.
I got the WNBA season pass the year it was offered. It broadcast games that were being shown in any local market. Since that still was a small % of all the games I certainly didn’t get bored or overwhelmed, just the opposite.
Now I get the college basketball package. It allows me to watch any game I really want to see (which includes every NCAA tourney women’s game). Also, if it’s 9:30 or so and I feel like watching something on TV and there’s not much on the regular channels, I know I can always watch some bball game.
