I drove through Hope British Columbia not long after the Sylvester Stallone movie “First Blood” came out and it was rebuilt quite nicely, no evidence of Rambo’s near destruction of the town at all.
(Ok, metaphorically speaking of course)
But admittedly I’ve always wanted to know what would happen if I took a “left toin at Albekoikey”.
I’ve been to the future birthplace of Captain Kirk.
I wanted to visit Savannah ever since reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. And of course while I was there I did the Midnight tour and visited Jim Williams’ house and Bonaventure Cemetery.
Perhaps not as exotic but there is not doubt that my walking down Washington St, Dumbo towards the Manhattan Bridge was inspired by “Once Upon A Time In America”, and similarly visiting Monument Valley was inspired by any number of John Ford movies.
In fact you could argue the whole damm trip was a homage to my small screen experiences and frankly I found the whole place more akin and couth to “The West Wing” than “Survivor”. Of course, you lot have changed the screen writers recently and that may well have buggered everything up.
Cat’s Eye. She worked there for many years, but now she’s just an occasional customer.
I did take the Underground Seattle tour for the same reason. It wasn’t sold out when I was there. If it hadn’t been for the TV-movie, I’d never have heard of the place. Glad I went.
I visited Circus Circus in Las Vegas simply because it featured in the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever
I’ve been there also. The modern train station wrapped around that little brick wall doesn’t look much like anything in the Potterverse.
I’ve taken visitors to Point Dume to see the shooting locations for the last two scenes of Planet of the Apes. You have to take a little trail around the point to get to the cove where the last scene was filmed. They always ask if there are still remains of the prop statue. I tell them to dig around and they might find pieces of it. (It was a matte painting added after filming).
I always pronounce it like “Point Doom”, which fits for PotA. but, is it supposed to be “du may”?
Curiously enough we went to Port Isaac a couple of weeks ago, and I didn’t really know about the Doc Martin link at the time. But now we have started watching the series on streaming, and it is quite a bit darker than I remember it.
That’s how it is pronounced in California.
Is that where Mount Doom slopes down to the sea and the really nice orc beach? (Warning: Nude orc bathing)
i went to nova scotia due to the poem evangline. mackinac island due to somewhere in time.
nantucket due to moby dick.
One does not simply walk to Point Dume.
Just before I left Indiana for Great Britain in April of '76, I caught an episode of Garfield Goose and Friends out of Chicago. It was the week of Easter, and host Frazier Thomas was showing home movies of his recent trip to Britain in search of the real King Arthur. One of the places he visited was Tintagel, which I immediately put on my list of things to do. I finally made it around September, when the weather at Land’s End was dismal.
It’s been the subject of at least one movie: Skidmore, Mo. is only 40 minutes from my dispensary, and I’ve been tempted to drive through a few times. Skidmore is the location of the “in broad daylight” killing of the town bully.
After reading through the comments I have done several more trips based upon TV shows and movies.
I too have been to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Vegas based upon watching Pawn Stars. Saw Rick making a deal in the parking lot and sold some gold rings while I was there.
Also stopped off in Nashvile at the American Pickers store and made a purchase of a cheap item I saw on the show. It was a model kit of a dragster with a vampire that looked like Mike on the box.
Went to Norte Dame in Paris in part because of watching the Humpback of Norte Dame as a kid. The Moulin Rogue as well, would not have gone there wthout first seeing the movie since it was a bit out of the way from regular tourist stops. I went to Paris with some coworkers and with the ladies from work to this day I always use the line “Remember that time in Paris?” from When Harry Met Sally and they respond “We’ll always have Paris!”.
Made a point of stopping to explore Amsterdam after watching Pulp fiction. Otherwise I would have just changed planes there.
I feel like Animaniacs had some influence on my decision to visit Warner Brothers studios when I was in SoCal last year.
