Have You Ever Driven a "Real" Elevator?

When I used to ride one to/from my 48th floor Boston office I would sometimes tell my fellow passengers that “This is a Maxwell House elevator…(pause)…good to the last drop.”

There’s also one in the Brian de Palma film Obsession

Thirty years ago, in 1982, your employer (and I know who it is) had 1200 members. What’s it down to today?

I know similar clubs in the city, albeit not exactly peers, are struggling to get younger people interested in joining, lest, like the celibate Shakers (3 members left as of January 2011), they entirely vanish.

Also, do they still have butt booty nekkid swimming in the men’s pool?

I’ve driven some very old and very scary elevators at power plants, but only briefly and for my own purposes. One in Michigan dated from before WW1.
