Have you ever ridden a horse?

I said yes for some definition of “ride” as it was an amusement park pony on a very short lead and we went around in a circle while I shrieked in horror. I was about four years old at the time. I’ve never had any desire to repeat the experience.

I’ve ridden a horse, a camel, and a mule, once each while on various vacations. I have a religious belief against riding the same quadruped more than once.

I guess mules should count, so I should have added the mule ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

A bunch of times, at camp, when I was a kid.

Not in the last 40 years, though.

Yes, I used to barrelrace in rodeos around the midwest. I was also a rodeo queen.
Now I own 2 horses, both geldings. One is a bay muttxmorgan that is 10 and an awesome mount. The other is a foundation QH, buttermilk dun, he is 3 now and dopers helped name him.

Love horses, love riding. I’ve been a horse owner most of my life (age 12 until last year when my old mare died) and I hope I can get a horse again soon. Right now isn’t the right time - but someday!

yup. Started with a shetland monster at 4, got a welsh cob at 5, horse at 8, did dressage and jumping until I hosed my back permanently while skiing at 19. Did more time cleaning stalls than Hercules  or so it seemed at the time.

Would give my left arm to be able to ride still. :frowning:

That was me! How’s he doing, BTW?

Yup! I own a thoroughbred mare that I compete in hunters.

At one point my stepdaughter, who was taking jumping lessons, and I, who was a barrel racer in my youth, and my husband, who had once petted a horse, went riding.

He asked for a slow, lazy horse, and he got one, and we started our ride, along an established trail. That is, his horse was slow and lazy until we got to the place where the boys were setting off fireworks.

At the first firework, my horse and my stepdaughter’s horse raised their heads and pricked their ears and stepped a little more carefully. My husband’s slow, lazy horse—took off.

My husband handled it like a pro, so it ended up being funny.

Once. That was enough.

Given your username, I have to ask… have you ever ridden a pig?

The one time I got near a horse, it stepped on my foot and bit me in the boob.

So, no, I’ve never ridden a horse.

I used to ride when I was young, but stopped for various reasons when I was 16 or so. I’ve taken a few trail rides and such since, but generally don’t have much opportunity to ride anymore. I miss it, though, and would get back into it if I had the time and money.

12 falls, nothing but bruises.

I rode one once on a horseback trail at the beach. It was a two hour ride. I know why cowboys walk like that now.

I have owned 2 in my life, so I would hope I’ve ridden!

God, how I miss it… everything about horses. Some days it is a physical ache for me, the longing is so bad.

A part of me is dead without them.

Once, a long time ago. I survived.

When I was a kid, I went on pony rides at the zoo a few times, so I said yes.

I rode a mule for the first time about six years ago, on a trip into a place way back in the hills in Panama. On the way out, I fell off on a steep downhill slope when the mule bolted, and I broke four ribs. I had to get back on and ride for another three hours, then had a 9 hour car ride back home. (Fortunately someone else drove.) Not a pleasant trip.

I went back to the same place a month later and rode a mule in again, with my ribs still broken. Fortunately I was able to stay on this time.

I’ve also ridden a camel (at the zoo) and an elephant (a couple times at the zoo, and once in India).

I had horses growing up, and rode hunter-jumper. Haven’t been on one in at least 10 years though. I’d like to have horses again one day, but they’re expensive and time consuming (and not practical for apartment living  ) so it might be a while.

Sure. I did lessons for years, plus riding camp more than one summer. Got to the point where I would learn to jump, then I think I switched to soccer.
