Have you had the $20,000 cup of coffee?

NY Times Article on New Brewing Method

I only had the $11,000 cup of coffee. In Portland, the Stumptown Coffee at the Ace Hotel has the Clover machines, which do not cost $20,000.

I had a cup of coffee the other day. Absolutely stunning. (A 16 ounce cup is $3.00.)

You get to pick your beans, usually from a selection of about six or eight. They grind just enough beans for your cup of coffee, then brew it right into the cup.

It came out at the PERFECT drinking temperature. Hot…very hot…but not enough to scorch my tongue. And the flavor was just unreal. It was a lot like drinking really good wine…ultra smooth, with multiple flavors detectable.

There are very few of the machines in the US, but maybe some of you in SF or NY (or Portland) have tried it.

If you live in Portland, I recommend picking up doughnuts first.

Bah. I just spent a weekend in Oaxaca, Mexico. THAT was coffee. Wonderful stuff, not bitter in the slightest, completely smooth and delectable - I’m a two sugar, two cream kind of gal (in a 6 ounce coffee!), and I drank this stuff black and loved it!

Hmmm…considering the plane tickets and the hotel room, I guess it was a $1200 cup of coffee…maybe your way is better…

20k for some halogen lamps and high school science?
Neat, truly, and I’d gladly have a cup–but if its priced like that there won’t ever be any machines around for me to get my cuppa.

How much does a proper espresso machine cost? Say, one of the modern automatic ones you’d see at sbucks, and/or a classic one all in brass and valves. Those couldn’t be that much less than a clover.
