Yip, that’s the sort of thing I did to get politics off my page. Thought they also used to offer this survey where you could vote how important topics were. I took it three times and downvoted the political stuff.
Now, though, if it does creep in, I do block the source.
The Internet is full of politics, on many different sites. Facebook to me is about talking to real life friends. And it’s dumb to get into political fights.
That said, someone did post about how they hate everything Trump stands for but think he’s the lesser of two evils, so I did explain why I disagree. But then it turned out she’d deleted the post anyways.
I have unfriended people, and I’ve been unfriended. I think that all is fair in love and Facebook. I prefer my newsfeed to be an echo chamber. And I take the word “friend” literally, even on Facebook.
A few of you have expressed interest in an app that blocks specific text. You might like F.B. Purity. Here is their website. They offer numerous tweaks and hacks, including blacklisting text. Also, you can whitelist specific friends. For example, I have “commented on this” blacklisted, but my brother and sister-in-law are whitelisted. I even do this during television seasons; I’ll blacklist “Game of Thrones” so I won’t get spoilers because I bingewatch it the last week of the season.
I’m in no way connected to anything having to do with F.B Purity. I don’t even know the name of the person who created it. Also, Facebook despises this hacker tool, and won’t allow sharing of the page or links to it. I hope this helps.
