Have you rediscovered old bands that you'd completely forgotten?

I liked them better when they renamed themselves Quiet Riot!

If you haven’t yet, check out some of the live recordings of Slade. They were also a visual treat.

Ronnie Montrose!

I liked one of the projects he was involved with in the early 80s - Gamma. Voyager really showed how great a guitarist he was.

I saw Montrose at The Often Talked About and Seldom Seen T-Car*, in-between Demolition Derbies.

Ah, Back in the Day…

I was convinced I had never heard of that group before, but after listening to “Rain, the Park, and Other Things,” I realized they were one of those groups I used to hear on the radio without really knowing who they were.

And a young Sammy Hagar (credited as “Sam Hagar” IIRC).

I did the exact same thing in about 2010 or thereabouts. Two bands that I rediscovered, to my delight, were New Riders of the Purple Sage and Canned Heat.

On Tuesday this week, I found myself in the dreary depths of the Walmart in suburban Addison, Illinois and heard a few familiar beats from the store’s PA. That singsong ticktock, a little behind the beat. Wait, is that… ?

CAN’T HELP IT, THE GIRL CAN’T HELP IT

Fuck Yea! I was all but jumping around the Walmart aisle, wildly looking to the other patrons: “Are you hearing this?! Who want to dance?” They were not and nobody.

But the damage is done. Earworms for a week, I spend 45 minutes researching the song, origins, samples, the Animals version of She Can’t Help It (not good), Fergie’s resume, will.i.am’s whereabouts, etc.

Shawn Mullins is the one that comes to mind for me, though I’m not sure it fits the spirit of the thread. “Lullaby” was a huge hit back in 1998, and he had one other minor hit that I knew of at the time, “Everywhere I Go.” They were decent songs, but I was a teenager, and his sound was too mature for my tastes at the time. But 25 years later, I re-discovered his music and now his songs hit the spot. “Beautiful Wreck” was my most played song of the year on Spotify a couple years ago, and “We Run” is my currently most played song.

Ahh. My theme song.

Love that.
