Have you see Shen Yun?

I kinda thought that because the Falun Gong connection represents an opportunity to piss off the Chinese government, maybe it should be viewed as a good thing.

I looked up the cost of tickets in San Jose - $80 - $220 - which is not out of line for this kind of thing. Still more than I want to pay, but not crazy expensive.

I’ll ditto this.
And my wife will ditto my ditto.

And we didn’t find the ‘just let me believe whatever I want’ message so bad. After all, that’s a cornerstone of our Bill of Rights in the USA. We just found the “stop ignoring creationism” message to be ridiculous and the “join our rejection of science and progress” message to be deplorable – especially coming from a populace that provides the manpower to assemble most of the planet’s technologically progressive gadgets. I guess snapping parts together has nothing to do with understanding what you’re making.

As a colleague warned before we went to see it: Don’t expect to see a variant of the Peking Opera; it’s more like a [beautifully presented] series of rants against the Chinese government and a plea for financial help in their battle against it.

–G!

All i know is that I’d have to buy a dozen tickets to make back the cost of these full-color multi-page 8"x11" mailers they send me three times a week.

Only reason I’ve even heard of it is because the local alternative newspaper has been running full page paid ads condemning the shows.

Paragraphs are led off with bolded sentences that include, “Hidden cult background, Tricks during the live performance, Evil performance”.

I didn’t read. I don’t care. I wouldn’t see it anyway, and don’t need a reason not to. But somebody sure has a problem with it.

I can not wait to hear my wife’s impression of her second visit to it in March.

She did tell me a segment was political, but most of it wasn’t!

I saw it maybe four or five years ago, and it was OK but not great. I actually don’t remember anything at all about Falun Gong. Maybe I just tuned it out.

sounds like the prc 's diplomatic corps ……

“Evil performance”? Now they’ve got me curious. (Not curious enough to cough up $80+, yet, but…)

eta: like many, I’ve received and read the surely-expensive brochure; I hadn’t known about the Falun Gong connection, but the verbiage was…odd. So much about how Spiritual You Will Feel that it came off as rather creepy. I wasn’t tempted. But I’d like to know what is ‘evil’ about it!

There’s SO MUCH advertising for this show, it made me think it must be some sort of cult. I guess based on the above posts, maybe that’s not so far from the truth!
