Well, my feeling is that Sandra @ The Lighthouse People and a couple of the rest of are exactly right.
Look at the picture linked above (reply #27). Looks pretty idealized, doesn’t it? Notice that most any other colors would clash with the scene. It’s pretty. Mission accomplished, IMO. I think that’s more romantic than a portrait.
What’s the artists name? Magilu?
A couple of years ago, we visited The Outer Banks in North Carolina. There are four lighthouses located on the Outer Banks. Each one is 40 miles from from it’s two neighbors. According to the guide this is because from the sea you can see a lighthouse from 20 miles away, When you lose sight of one, you should be able to see the next one. This isn’t rocket science, since there are more sunken ships off the Outer Banks than any other U.S. coastline. The area called “Nags Head” gets its name from pirates hanging a lamp around a horse’s neck to fool the ships; causing them to wreck.
Ok, better color, smaller pic… hmm, anyway at least it looks better lol.
Sorry Scruloose, I got a tip from another member who commented on another post of mine and it was just too easy to do this myself and too risky trusting your mailbox =)) haha… eats everything huh? :dubious:
anyway try this one guys, not a lot of difference except the colors and size
This is an interesting thread - it’s so sweet how people will respond and try to find an answer to an unusual question. I hate to break it to you, but as an artist I think that from the way this piece was painted, there’s about zero chance it accurately represents an actual lighthouse. It’s nowhere near accurate enough. Plus if it did, then the name of the lighthouse would be written in at the bottom, because that would be a selling point. It looks like an idealized image to me.
