Have you sent or received a fax in the past four weeks?

Inspired by the “How much longer does the fax machine have?” thread.

I don’t think I’ve sent or received one in the last four years even…

I use a fax machine quite regularly at work; people frequently send us orders, information, and enquiry responses by fax.

I used to work in electronics retail until quite recently and sold a lot of fax machines; easily an average of 2 or 3 a week.

The lab is faxing my doctor’s office my results today. It’s all done electronically now, though, and the lab doesn’t feed a printout into a machine. They put the fax number into the computer and hit “send.” I’m not sure how it comes out on the other end, so I’m not even sure if that really counts.

I personally haven’t used a fax in months. I had to fax in some documents to HR in January, because I didn’t have access to a scanner at the time. The last things I might have had to fax, I either filled out a PDF and emailed it back, or scanned something in and emailed it.

I send at least ten a day at work, receive probably more than that.
mmm

Last fax sent or received was almost three years ago, when my then fiancée and I bought the home next door to the one she owned.

I send out several a day at work, and we request people to fax in documents all the time. My fiancee also faxes at work nearly everyday.

I recieve junk faxes daily, real faxes slightly less frequently.

Probably receive at least once a day, send maybe a few times a week. I work in medical research, and unless you’re dealing with encrypted files, fax is more secure for patient information than e-mail is.

Probably 3 or 4 in the last month.

I get junk faxes a few times a week, and useful faxes a few times a year. It’s been years since I sent one.

I think this might actually have been more than 4 weeks, I don’t remember exactly. But I had to get a fax sent on my behalf, though I wasn’t actually at the controls. A package arrived at my apartment while I was out of the country, and the postal outlet needed a fax of my driver’s license and a letter of authorization before they let my Mom pick it up.

And then the post office charged her for receiving the fax.

I sent one 2 weeks ago for a medical claim. My insurance company has an online form for claims, but since this was a “corrected claim” it had to be submitted via fax or mail.

I used to own an cheap little all-in-one printer/fax, but when I got married and moved in with my husband 2 years ago I threw it out. I figured, he has plenty of printers already and we didn’t need one more. Really regretted it because I end up needing to send or receive a fax every few months, and often for personal stuff (usually: medical) that I’d rather not deal with at work.

Our office receives emergency alerts from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and a monthly test message by fax. It is just one of several ways such messages are transmitted - they are big on redundancy.

A few regional agencies also send faxes, but that is only a small handful each year.

I have never had one at home although about 15 years ago I used to send faxes using software from my home PC. I suppose I sent or received one at work once in a while about that time but I don’t even know where a fax machine is in my office now. There may not be one for all I know. If there is the number isn’t on my listing of nearby office numbers.

I answered no, as I haven’t personally. We do get junk faxes in the office, though. (Our printers double as fax machines so there’s often junk lying in the output tray when I pick up printouts.)

I get my prescriptions refilled every month. You can order online, over the phone, or by fax. The trouble with online is that you have to fill in the prescription numbers for each one (my wife and I get 5-7 prescriptions each every month), by phone you first have to get a pharmacist and then dictate the names, taking my time and his/hers. By fax, I just print out the names of the current month’s renewals and fax them. If they took email, I would use that, but they don’t.

Aside from that I probably send a fax maybe once a year. Apparently a signature on a fax is considered binding, while there is no way to sign an email. And once a year, my doctor faxes me and my wife the results of our blood, etc. tests during out annual checkups. He gets the results from the lab by fax and his receptionist sends them to me. Aside from that, I cannot recall the last time I received a fax. Our doctor doesn’t have a public email address.

I’ve sent three faxes this month, but only because we’re dealing with permits to move a mobile home. I had to send one other fax this year - insurance crap relating to Tony’s wreck.

OTOH, when I’m not busy being a full-time mom, I work in the hotel business. Lots of faxing there, on clients’ behalves, or dealing with the (stupid) third party resellers.

Never have in my life.

Edit: Didn’t know junk faxes existed, but I guess it makes sense.
Interesting.

I have participated in 3 class action lawsuits against junk faxers. Each suit resulted in a check of around one hundred dollars. I only had to sign some forms and fax them back.
