I went to Las Vegas recently over the 4th of July and do want to come back. However, I think I need a break from the Strip where I was mostly on that trip. I spent one of my days Downtown and quite liked it.
I’m considering the Downtown Grand as it is away from the loud Fremont Street Experience.
Will I get bored after a day and a half? Do I just have rose colored glasses on?
My party days of carrying mega margaritas down Las Vegas Boulevard are way behind me, if that helps.
I stayed Downtown during March Madness this past spring. We stayed at the Fremont, which is in the heart of Fremont Street Experience.
I had just turned 70, and I had a blast. It being St. Patty’s Day that week, there was good live music in the evening, and a pretty damn big crowd on Friday night the 17th.
Between the nearby dispensary and the abundance of outdoor bars, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I even stayed up past my self-imposed curfew and didn’t feel bad about it.
I stayed there in January after 6 years or so of not going to Vegas. It’s not as good as it used to be, particularly as everything is a lot more expensive now, but if you’re still keen on Vegas, it is a more human-scale experience than the Strip.
There’s enough variety to keep things going for a week, but also, if you do get bored by the Vegas glitter, it’s also within walking distance of some more normal-city type places, unlike the Strip. You can at least give your ears a rest from the slot machines.
The OP has told us what he doesn’t want. So what do you want? Why are you in Vegas at all vs some other city?
Gambling? Shows? Weird museums? Sex, drugs, rock’n’roll, or all 3? Drinking? Fine dining? Cheap Buffets? Oddball tourist experiences? Street performers? Living an alternative lifestyle of some sort vs your norm?
All the above is available somewhere in town. So what’s your order off the menu?
Good gaming with reasonable minimums. I can’t believe I saw $25 6/5 blackjack almost everywhere on the strip. That even includes low level properties like Excalibur
A place like the Sand Dollar Lounge seems right up my alley as a place I think I’d enjoy hanging out at.
Museums or other interesting attractions. I know the Mob Museum is right there and that looks intriguing. 2 of the highlights of my last trip was the Art Gallery at Bellagio and the aquarium at Mandalay Bay.
