Have your musical tastes changed radically?

I’d say no, but I remember that six month span in middle school where I made my mom listen to Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” on repeat. Sorry, mom.

Yes, it’s changed, though that’s more a matter of being exposed to different things than of my deciding I didn’t like my old favorites. Though I used to hate my mom’s radio station, even though it was WXRT in Chicago, which is actually really, really good.

Hijacking my own thread in reply, they were just fantastic. I got on stage for the encore (about 80-100 of us did), got a hug from Al Barr and kiss on the cheek from Ken Casey.

Life = fantastic.

And:

They opened with a recording of a lovely Irish song that I haven’t heard, but I think it was the girl that sang Darcy Darling Dear. Then straight into Sing Lound, Sing Proud and* Pipebomb on Landsdowne*.

I came home soaked in my own sweat, unable to speak, with various unexplained bruises and a sore head where the guy who went over me accidentally gave me a boot to the back of the head. So very awesome. What a night!

Yeah, I was never a big fan of Blue Eyes, but damn, the guy had some pipes and outstanding phrasing.

Vegas Lounge Jazz

More Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr, Diana Krall

Nope, I still like all the stuff I liked in high school, and stuff like it. The only changes have been entirely new genres coming along, like grunge. But it still all falls under the same general heading of “Indie-alternative”, and has since the 80s.

Nat KING Cole is my very favorite.

No never. It remains the same all time.

Mostly classical, operas & operettas, musicals, classic rock, pop/standards, choral.

Constantly expanding within each genre, haven’t added a genre in over 30 years.

I’ve started to like opera a lot more in the last decade.

I used to loathe disco music. Now I find myself regularly listening to the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever and loving it.

New Wave --> Heavy Metal --> Psychedelic --> Prog Rock --> Goth --> Industrial/Electronica --> Alternative Jangle --> Grunge --> Prog Alternative --> Blues

Wondering where I’ll go next from blues…

Tried and have never liked: Rap, modern R&B, country, jazz

Blues can be a launching pad for jazz, particularly earlier New Orleans jazz.

I was super into the Blues in high school and hated top-40.

Now, I never listen to the blues and have an appreciation for pop music.

For about a decade I stopped listening to rock 'n roll (and all variants) because I discovered classical music.
