Having Weird Dreams

I am one of those folks who remember their dreams because they are so very vivid.

Earlier this week, I dreamed my car broke down on the side of I-20 in Atlanta near Six Flags, and for some reason there was a roller coaster I could ride to to get to my next destination, (Fulton Industrial Blvd) where my brother was and he and I would come back and get my car.

So I got on this roller coaster, hoping to get off at Fulton Ind. Blvd. ,but the damn thing itself broke down and everyone had to get off and walk alongside that little boardwalk where we then took another coaster, but I think I took the wrong one, because this damn thing took me all the way around trhe 285 perimeter and I could not get off!

The weird thing (as if this isn’t weird enough) is that I felt all the sensations of being on a roller coaster (the fast drops, the click-click-clicks of climbing, the curves, etc).

So last night, I dreamt I was telling someone about this dream!

Also last night while asleep, I felt like I needed to pee, so in my dream I created a situation whereby I asked someone in a restaurant where the men’s room was and then I awoke and went to my bathroom.

I also have a dream which I have already told y’all about (which led to my sky-diving) in which I slide down a flight of stairs, take flight at the bottom and catch a slipstream and just fly . What makes that dream weird, is that I fly over a group of people, and none of them seem surprised to see me gliding above them!

What may be weirder to y’all is that I actually enjoy having these dreams, and no, I am not “on” anything.

Anybody wanna have a go at this?

Thanks

I’m sure AFG would take a stab at it.

I often awaken w/ a dream in my head, but unless I make an effort to recall it, it’s gone in a few seconds. Recently I’ve had this dream at least twice, probably more. I hear a running lawn mower pass my window and a few seconds later there’s a knock at my front door. A couple nights ago I actually got up and opened the door, there was no one there, which confused me for a second until I realized it was the dream again. I cannot connect this to anything in my life???

You might be surprised --now that you’ve told people about it (even via the written word) you might not dream it again.

Several times in my life I’ve had re-occuring dreams. Some were okay, some were very scary. Every time, when I told someone about them, the dream would not come back that night. Perhaps in a way I was “exorcizing” my anxiety about it by telling someone-- I dunno why it works, but it works for me every time.

Thanks, Hon.

I am not looking forward to the “roller coaster” dream anytime soon, but I sure do like my “flying dreams”, and I have told some of my co-workers about them.

Some of my dreams are incredibly detailed: Once I dreamed I was a Secret Service agent travelling on Air Force One with the President and his children, and every time my earpiece transmitted a code word, I was to ask one of the kids a question and if it were answered wrong, I would immeidately be on my guard.

For instance if I heard the code word “Nelson” in my headset, I might ask how “Jennifer’s” dog “Annie” was doiing, I would be immediately on my guard if she didn’t correct me by telling me the dog’s name was “Bennie”.

I would then wait on another code word and ask another pre-programmed question, and so on until I was sure that these weren’t the people I was supposed to protect.

See what I mean?

I’m a walking novel!

Thanks!

Q

I have rather vivid and weird dreams. Usually there is a theme of some kind (a few weeks back silver ran through the dreams, with silver coins playing a big part.) Also, if I have a full bladder, I usually also find myself having to urinate in the dream.

Actually, the OP’s dreams seem quite normal to me. Many of my dreams are equally weird…

The other night I dreamt I was taking the El to work in Atlantic city (btw, there is no elevated trains or subway in AC) and part of the El’s scenic route went out into the ocean, with the Steel Pier, Million Dollar Pier, etc. as stops along the line.

Towards the end of the line the steel and concrete support beams are getting spindly and rotten due to immersion in saltwater and we must disembark from the train, as just beyond this stop the El has pretty much crumbled away into nothing: for a hundred feet or so the train tracks just stretch out into the air with nothing supporting them underneath.

So I get off the train onto the platform/pier and walk down a ramp to this ferry boat the size of a bus; also the interior of this boat is identical to a city bus.

The ferry/bus completes the El’s circuit by running ashore and driving up the beach(it is an amphibious vehicle, like a WWII Army Duck) and driving to one of the inner-city subway stations. The subway is nothing more than a rough tunnel cut into the dirt under Atlantic City and the “train” is a cart pulled by a mule; the whole scene is more like a turn-of-the-century coal mine than a modern public transportation.

Now that I am out of the City and driving myself everywhere, I often have dreams about public transportation. I took the 2 train when I commuted in NYC, so I often dream that I am trying to get the right track and it’s this convoluted route to get there, full of peril and obstacles. Or I get on the wrong train and it is carrying me to parts of NYC I’ve never heard of. The latest was I dreamed that we were backed up in a line going way underground and then something like a fire or smoke broke out. But we all just waited patiently to make our way out of the situation.

I’ve had vivid dreams all my life.

Two nights ago I dreamt I was giggling as I tried to read aloud beat poetry written by Alan Arkin.

I seldom wonder where they come from or what they mean any more. I just regard odd dreams as free entertainment while I sleep.

I take anti-depressant drugs and have for quite a while, and a side effect is vivid dreams. But now, five years later, (unless I’'m in REM sleep) my subconscious knows somehow that I am under medication and places my dreams right under being awake. Ususally very plesant.
