So it makes you happy, but you think it was a big disaster, big enough that you think within a year ATT is just going to say “Fuck it, nobody gets to watch Friends anymore.”
Sure, ok, that makes perfect sense. Totally.

I mean, objectively speaking, the launch has been a disaster.
I don’t see how the service can be a success with how big a disaster the launch has been.
Wow. You really like to repeat yourself. Do you think that if you say it enough it will come true? Or others will believe it?
You know what would be awesome? If HBO Max had past HBO Boxing fights. Since boxing has been delayed due to COVID, it could be a place for boxing fans to get their fix. You’d have 40+ years of fights to choose from.
Also, HBO Max will be rotating its selection of DC movies.
How are you doing after seeing this?
Hopefully, posting in a month-old thread doesn’t make me a necromancer… ![]()
I got HBO MAX yesterday. I pay for HBO through my cable service (Verizon) and already had HBO GO on my Apple TV, so at first I ignored the whole MAX thing. But then yesterday I read a review of an original MAX show that sounded interesting, so I did some research – and, after seeing on HBO’s site that “The HBO GO app will be removed from primary platforms in the U.S. by July 31, 2020” and that access to MAX should be free for people who already pay for HBO, I added the MAX app to my Apple TV (and iPad) and deleted GO.
Gaining access was smooth, but the process was kind of annoying: even after logging into Verizon and confirming my account/access, I still had to create a MAX account. Once I was finally in, though, I was pleasantly surprised! Because I’d pretty much ignored any news about it, I didn’t know it also had so much non-HBO content. And the user interface for browsing movies is better than GO’s, though I do miss being able to see my watchlist as a grid instead of having to scroll through a horizontal list.
During the past few weeks I’ve spent most of my TV time binge-rewatching Elementary (I own the first five seasons), but I can see mixing that up with some serious MAX time…
4.1 million customer signed up for HBO Max over the month. The goal is 50 million customers by 2025. Is that a disaster?
Okay, I’m pissed. I canceled my HBO on Amazon. Signed up to HBO Max only to find they don’t have live streaming like they do on Amazon’s HBO.
Grrr!
I’m a bit curious. What do you need live streaming for? HBO Max now has John Oliver at least (don’t know about Bill Maher as I don’t watch him) available as soon as the show airs on HBO.
I need my Friday night Bill Maher fix.
I guess I could wait a day but Maher has been a Friday night ritual of mine for a while now.
HBO Max is still not available on Firestick or Roku and things will come to a head on August 1st.
HBO Now will become HBO but other than the new name, nothing will change. HBO Go will cease to exist and so those of us with Roku and Firestick won’t get HBO at all on our tv. I think we would still get it on our laptops, tablets and phones so we could watch on our tv with a Chromecast or HDMI cable.
If you have a Firestick, you can sideload HBO Max onto the device. Roku is out of luck for now.
The big day has come and HBO still works on my Firestick through Amazon Prime. I don’t have the extra HBO Max content but I don’t happen to be interested in that anyway.
Amazon and HBO worked out a last minute deal to extend HBO access while they discuss HBO Max access
So HBOMax now has a native Firestick App.
They are also getting the new Wonder Woman movie on Dec 25th.
I’ll also note, it’s probably my most used streaming service after Netflix. You have the HBO shows (and we really enjoyed Big Little Lies, which we never watched before), the Max Originals (Raised by Wolves was fantastic), and then fun Cartoon Network stuff (Doom Patrol is good and I think another Adventure Time special dropped yesterday).
