I have a friend that has really really red hands when she keeps her arms down.
For example, she’ll be sitting at a table with her hands on the table and her hands (up to her wrists) are really really red. they are red whether her hands are cold or warm. it doesn’t hurt her when they are red and are not more sensitive.
But if she puts up her arms in the air above her head, the redness goes away only to come back once her arms are down.
I haven’t asked her all the details of when it happens.
But she says it occurs often.
She eats really healthy. Plenty of fruits, veggies are in her diet.
She is thin, about 5’5" and maybe 105lbs or 115lbs.
She doesn’t exercise regularly but still is pretty fit.
She doesn’t want to go to doctor’s thinking it’s nothing serious.
Is this something that requires medical attention?
What can it be? and what can be done to get rid of it?
No real medical input here, other than the suggestion that routine physical exams are a good time to bring up issues like this.
I have also wondered if there is a word for someone who is the opposite of a hypochondriac. I do not go to the doctor unless I am near death, mainly because I am afraid the doc will say my problem “is nothing”.
I once laid in bed in pain for 36 hours thinking “oh, it’ll pass” before finally going to the ER and having an emergency cholecystectomy.
You don’t say how old your friend is, but since you said “she,” presumably she at least goes to the gynocologist once a year or so. She could mention it in passing; even though it’s not exactly his/her specialty, there would be a general idea as to whether it’s dangerous. IMHO (and IANAD), if it’s something that’s been the case for a long time, it could likely wait until her next regular checkup.
