You are exactly five berries ahead of me. Damn bush is still about ten inches tall, despite being at least three years old. Rabbits love to chomp on it during the winter, though.
Oddly enough I just got this for Kindle from Amazon; Grow Blueberries At Home.
MMMmmmm … wild Maine blueberries (they’re the tiny ones) in thin buckwheat pancakes – topped with real butter, real maple syrup, and sausage patties on the side! Healthy? Who really cares
A well-made blueberry scone is nothing to be scoffed at, either.
Blueberries are healthy for you and I eat the berries fresh from the fridge or frozen, especially great on a hot day.
Smoothies are perfect for frozen blueberries (even the storebought ones). My go-to is equal parts yogurt (plain or vanilla), frozen blueberries, and milk, with a packet of Splenda for sweetness. Blenderize and enjoy.
Blueberry sauce or compote is simple and wonderful on pancakes/waffles or on your favourite low calorie cheesecake for something desserty and healthy. Just microwave (3-5 minutes) 2 cups of blueberries (fresh or frozen) with a few tablespoons of water, the juice of half a lemon, and sweetner to taste. Use a large bowl since it bubbles over and stir in a tsp of cornstarch with a tsp of water after it boils for one more minute of cooking time to thicken it up.
I have five very mature blueberry bushes that have fed my family for 50 years. The last three years the birds have picked the bushes clean before they even turned blue. I’m running out of frozen berries from years past…this thread is making me stabby towards the birds. Never had this problem when cats were allowed to roam free in this town…LOL.
