Heating skyscrapers utilizing their own mass?

??? ???

Is there an OP here somewhere?

(warning - this post pulled completely from poster’s hiney, without a single cite to back it up. Take with several shakers of salt and season lightly with oregano. Heat until brown.)

Skyscrapers do generate heat by pressure on their structures due to the immense weight, but I’m not sure of the numbers. I’m sure the basement and ground levels get it all, though - they must, after all, hold up the rest of the building. Swaying also might add an extra level of friction to the supports - more heat. I’m sure if you ask any architect who’s worked on really tall buildings, (s)he’d tell you about the problems of keeping the lower floors cool.

The server seems to have eaten yojimboguy’s OP, so I’ll close this and invite him to try again.
