Heavy Metal rul3zzz

Just caught 1981’s Heavy Metal on cable tonight at a party. Found my way home and was wondering, knee-deep in BÖC did someone spike my reposado or is this some interesting quasi-philosophy? Looking over a Yahoo Search (not with-it enough to Google anything), there appears to be a cult following for this movie, even to this day. Shitty animation and all!

Reeks of allegory.

What say ye?

Boy-oyoyoyoyoy-innnngg.

(Apparently too arcane for Ye Olde Mod. No Debate today – there we must keep to topics like cat claws and pink unicorns.)

Heavy Metal’s one of those movies that develops a cult following for no apparent reason, I think. Or maybe you had to be there. I saw it and there were some pretty cool sequences (and the music rocked), but I don’t get the whole cult thing around it.

I think it was just the novelty of seeing animated boobies back in the early '80s.

I think there were drugs involved.

Heh heh, boobies.

I slept it off. Only 1% allegory. The balance is boobies and swearing.

My theory when watching it was that you’d have to be high to appreciate it. Either that or I’m too used to animated boobs and violence now.

Well, I just wonder if any of the target audience at the time actually got the greater message (which is somewhat uncharacteristic for the time, considering the typical anthology flick, like “Cat’s Eye” and “Creepshow,” et al that might’ve been targeted at “H. M.'s” demography) or any of the symbolism.

I was far too young at the movie’s release to have been privy to the discussions – albeit likely ganja-infused – resulting from the flick.

This post was intended as a study of the youth of the time. Unfortunately, my wings were made of wax. <sob>

The B-17 scene was pretty cool.
